Feature – Lucy Shaw Q & A
1. When will you start your road season and what will be the first race?
Lucy: My first race is Le Samyn des Dames on 2nd March.
2. What races will be your targets for 2016 and why?
Lucy: Every race will be a target but for different aspects of my development.
3. How will you spend the Jme on the bike between now and your first race in training?
Lucy: This winter I have started working with Epic Cycle Coaching. The training has been different to what I have done in previous winters, but I will still keeping doing the long miles but then bringing in the top end efforts into these rides too.
4. What was your favourite Xmas present?
Lucy: A new pair of leather boots!
5. When it rains, which its doing a lot right now, is it turbo Jme or wrap up and get wet?
Lucy: As long as it’s not freezing out, I would say wrap up and get wet, save the turbo for icy and dangerous weather days. Top tip for staying dry is make sure you have a good set of waterproof gloves and over shoes, once your hands and feet are wet and cold there is no chance of staying warm! Also, I always take a rear light with me when the weather is a bit dodgy.
6. If you could do any race in the world including the best ones in the world etc, what would it be and why?
Lucy: A women’s Tour de France! The tour is a race that every cyclist dreams of riding, so I think its only fair that female cyclists can have that dream too.
7. What piece of food can you not do without where ever you are on the road during the season!
Lucy: I have a really bad sweet tooth, so I have to have some form of sugary treat with me wherever I go! Percy pigs are always a popular journey sweet.
8. What is your favourite music track when warming up for a race or on the turbo?
Lucy: Anything upbeat, that gets you in the mood for a hard race / session.
9. If given the option, would you prefer normal brakes or disc brakes on your road bike?
Lucy: Normal brakes, although I’ve never tried disc brakes, so I don’t really have an opinion on it!
10. What’s the spec of your race bike for 2016 and your favourite bits on it?Â
Lucy: Trek Emonda SLR in Miami Green. I just love the whole bike- but definitely the weight is my favourite bit, it is just so light!
11. And finally, your favourite item of clothing from Prendas/Santini?
Lucy: It’s hard to chose as I love all of our Santini kit, but I would have to say the winter tights are my favourite. They are so warm and comfy, plus I love the cool striped design.
