News: Cancellera on Eurosport Insider Series
PRESS RELEASE
Eurosport viewers will be offered a fascinating insight into what it takes to perform at the highest level of professional cycling as the sport’s destination steps behind the scenes at the pre-season training camp of Trek-Segafredo, one of the sport’s most popular and celebrated teams.
‘Behind the Stripes’, part of Eurosport’s acclaimed Sports Insiders series, will be broadcast on Eurosport 1 on Tuesday (20:30 CET), February 2 and will also be available on Eurosport Player, the premium all-access pass to the greatest events on the calendar, anytime and on any device.
The programme will provide unrestricted access to those within the close-knit circle of the team, covering everything from the high-tech training techniques through to the team bonding away from the bike, all in preparation for a gruelling and potentially defining season.
The 30-minute documentary, filmed in Spain’s Costa Blanca in December 2015, features candid team meetings, in-depth interviews, incredible on-board footage of the cyclists on the road, and the lowdown on the nutritional and technological secrets behind the team, formerly known as Trek Factory Racing.
“The Sports Insiders episode goes to the very heart of the team, lifting the lid on the expertise and sacrifice needed to be the best. While viewers will be gripped by the fly-on-the-wall access to what are usually closed training camps, they will also be mesmerised by some of the innovative location footage put together by Eurosport’s production team.â€
Trek-Segafredo, renowned for its steely determination among the peloton, is led by engaging personalities such as Swiss legend Fabian Cancellara as he prepares for his final season before retiring. Cancellara is one of the best against the clock in the history of cycling and a Classics specialist amassing multiple wins at Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders as well as eight Tour de France and three Vuelta a España stage wins during a glittering career.
The 25-man team includes 14 nationalities and stars such as climbing specialists Julián Arredondo (Columbia) and Fränk Schleck (Luxembourg), sprinter Giacomo Nizzolo (Italy), all-rounder Bauke Mollema (Netherlands), and new signing and 2012 Giro d’Italia winner Ryder Hesjedal (Canada).
Having provided a captivating glimpse into the workings of Trek-Segafredo, Eurosport will fuel the passion of its viewers by offering them the chance to follow the fortunes of the team through every twist and turn of 2016.
