Report/Results – Chavenage House Lovecrossed

EVENT PRESS RELEASE

On Sunday 31st January Lovecrossed took place at Chavenage House. This is LoveCrossed’s second year and wow what an incredible turn out. The organisers of the event Tangwyn Andrews and James Lowsley-Williams (NFTO rider) decided to combine the Western league into the event and have the event on the same day as the World Cyclo-Cross Championships. The event was sponsored by local distributor Saddleback (castelli, enve, sidi) and Scott Bikes UK.

Lovecrossed1

As the cars started to turn up on a dreary Sunday morning the smell of the fresh pizzas and coffee created a perfect Cyclo Cross atmosphere. The race was set around the beautiful Elizabethan Manor House starting out in the field with the house as its backdrop, the course made its way into woodland where there were hops and gaps to make your way through.

Then a stretch of deep mud that tested the riders before they hit the pits before making their way onto the tarmac and up the drag through the finish line and onto the gravel in front of the main entrance to the house. It was then back into the woods passing century old ruins and weaving your way in and out of the garden before making your way into the windiest section of the course. Before you head down into a section of off camber ditches with the crowed watching closely from above before climbing your way out and heading out for another lap.

Soon the youth races were under way and the race was won by Josh Price (Ride 24/7) completing 5 laps of the tough circuit in a time of 00:31:48 just shy of a minute faster than his closest rival.

With the Vet men/junior men/women all combined there was a big field for this next event. The winner of the women with a great ride was Fran Wyte (Bicester Millenium CC) completing 5 laps in a time of 00:44:39.

The junior men’s race was won by Matt Fratesi (Severn RC) with a fantastic ride to hold off his nearest competitor Tomos Nesham (Cardiff Jif).

With the biggest field on the day being the Vets race it was set up to be a tough race to win. Keith Murray (Scott Racing) took a good lead at the beginning of the race and held strong all the way to the end and completing 6 laps in a fantastic time of 00:39:01 pleasing the Scott sponsor of the event.

As the beer flowed from the Big Red Bus Bar and the music pumping from Nile Pilcher the crowed started to head down to the end of the garden to see off the last event of the day the Senior men’s race.

With a class field lined up it was going to be a hard fought effort for most. Once the race was under way a small group of 4 started to go clear. Scot Easter (Scott sports) was looking strong and getting the fastest lap on the day with a time of 00:03:33 until he was left to run with derailleur issues. With Vin Cox on the microphone keeping the crowed  well informed it was Scot Calmers (Felt Cabones) who started to up the pace and pull out a good lead over James Thompson (Rutland CC). In the end it was Scott Chalmers (Felt Cabones) who wheelied over the line in first place to pull on the Lovecrossed winners jersey of 2016.

“Firstly, thank you to Hank and Tangwyn and everyone else who put on such a cracking event to finish off the season. A really great course, with definite improvements from last year and a really strong turnout which made even more of the great event! Tough race what with the ground conditions and the competition, but after a couple of early mistakes I managed to get my head down and get a comfortable lead and loved managing to win on home soil! Cant wait for next year..thanks again chaps!” Scot Chalmers

Once all the racing was over it was then into the Manor House to enjoy the World Cyclo-Cross Championships “live” on the big screen in front of an open fire pizza, beer, cake and coffee. The atmosphere was electric as roars from the crowed as Lars Van Der Haar put it all on the line.

It was then Prize giving in front of the 150 full ballroom, it was a great way to end the western league series and to finish the event. Thank you everyone for attending either to race or to spectate we hope to see you all next year !
