News: Boels-Dolmans Road Debut for Harris

TEAM PRESS RELEASE

Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team signed two new riders for the 2016 season in Nikki Harris and Karol-Ann Canuel, and both make their road racing debut at Omloop van het Hageland on Sunday.

While Canuel is familiar with early season racing, Harris is facing the unknown. The British cyclocross champion last raced on the road at Thüringen Rundfahrt last July, and she’s never raced the spring classics.

“I’m looking forward to a change of scenery and some new challenges on the road,” said Harris. “I’m excited to get stuck in it with the girls. I’m hoping I can do a good job for them. I can’t say exactly how my form will transfer over to the road, but I’ll find out quickly. I have three races in my first week, and it will be nice to see how it goes.”

Only two of the six Boels-Dolmans riders that line-up from Saturday’s Omloop Het Nieuwsblad will race Sunday’s Omloop van het Hageland. Megan Guarnier and Romy Kasper are on double duty. Canuel, Harris, Demi de Jong and Kasia Pawlowska come in with fresh legs.

“At Hageland, you’ll see the other girls get freedom to do their own race,” said Stam. “They won’t be directly in the position where they have to work for a leader. There’s more opportunities.”

Stam expects Harris makes the most of these opportunities. “I must say that in training camp, Nikki had a good performance,” said Stam. “I’m really looking forward to seeing how she in the road races. I think she can take her form from cyclocross with her on the road.”
