Scott was always well positioned in the peloton and managed to stay in the first group of favourites all the time. He just missed out a split once, but showed his strength by bridging the gap on the Kwaremont on his own.

“I had good legs again today” said Scott “but I had to make a big effort to bridge across to the front group as it split on the Kwaremont. It was important that Ralf (Matzka) came back as we entered the finishing circuits and he did a great job holding me in a good position until 1km to go. I did not have the leg speed in the tailwind sprint to match the top level sprinters, but I am happy with the top 10, as it once again shows that I have raised my level this year.”

The day before, Scott was 16th in Het Nieuwsblad. Talking about the race, he says “Schwarzi (M. Schwarzmann) and Pösti (L. Pöstlberger) positioned me perfectly for the Kruisberg where the race typically starts to split. When the front group made their move, I was just a little too far back to respond.”

“I tried to jump across with some other riders. We spent 20km around 30sec behind the leaders, but due to their strength we could not close the gap and were caught with around 25km to go. It was a tough sprint then, unfortunately I missed out on a top ten result, but I am very happy with my condition at the start of the Classics.”
