Video Interview – Ian Bibby

VIDEO INTERVIEW – KIMBERLEY ASHTON

Winner of two Premier Calendar races in 2015, Ian Bibby of NFTO, was nothing short of superb in riding away from some of the best in the sport to solo to victory in the Manx International. In the Women’s race, Kimberly Ashton did the same, riding to the line alone ahead of the national series winner for the last two years, Nikki Juniper.

Ian Bibby of NFTO was nothing short of superb today, putting time into some very very good bike riders!

Kimberley Ashton came from one island (Jersey) to another to show what a talent she is with a solo win ahead of some very good female racers.

In the Men’s race, the first lap saw the first King of Mountains points being won by Raleigh GAC’s Adria Moreno. A two up break then dominated the race with former Junior National Champion Tristan Robbins of Madison Genesis and Jake Alderman of Saint Piran building up a lead of three minutes plus.

The riders behind however were not going to wait forever to start the fireworks and lap two, there were plenty of sparklers lighting up the race led by the Rocks own Peter Kennaugh.

Two lads made of the Rock, Mark Christian and Peter Kennaugh who were both in the mix today with Kennaugh creating the winning selection before Bibby took flight and no-one could hold him.

Two riders who were smashing it in the Sheffield Tuesday chain gang, Ben Swifth (2nd in Milan San Remo) and Russell Downing. Swifty was third in the race today.

Second time up the main climb and the race was split to pieces. Moreno of Raleigh GAC won the King of the Mountains points chased by James Gullen of Pedal Heaven and Dan Fleeman of Metaltek Kuota.

The climb was certainly sorting out the climbers and near the top, two groups merged to make a leading group of around eighteen riders chased by a strong second group at just under a minute.

The lead group though was never going to stay that big and Peter Kennaugh created a selection from which Ian Bibby and Erick Rowsell, chased by Kennaugh flew off up the mountain. Bibby dug in a bit harder and lost Rowsell and with ten miles from the top of the climb, solo’d to the victory ahead of a solo Erick Rowsell followed in by another solo rider, Ben Swift.

It showed just how tough a race will be with a 12k plus climb along with a lot of other hills to hurt the legs along the way.

In the womens race, Kimberly Ashton, solo’d to a win in that race, well clear of duo Nikki Juniper and Elizabeth Stedman who sprinted it out for second and third.
