Report: Isle of Man Youth League

Clear blue skies and bright sunshine greeted the 352 competitors who turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round two of Team RL360’s youth league.

Newcomer Lucas Wootton led the field home in the novices class, taking the chequered flag with a sizable advantage over Harry Tummon who outsprinted Austin Baglow and Jackson Roberts for the runners-up spot. Kaylem Kinley was a solid fifth and Charley Skillen ousted Jack Monaghan and leading girl Reha Maher for sixth. Max Wardle and Jacob Dawkins completed the top ten.

In the born 2011 and later class Finbar McSevney edged out breakaway partner Carter Kneale for the victory, with Bobby Kewley grabbing the final spot on the podium ahead of fellow chasers Bobby Kerruish, Joel Prentice, Macaulay Teare and Charlie Dormer. Joshua Moffitt pipped Bernat Munoz-Fite for eighth and Abigail Cowell held off poppy Clayton to take the girls’ prize in tenth place. Dylan Honeyman came from behind to snatch 12th from Tommy Bass.

Brad Le Geyt went from the gun in the born 2010 age group and was never caught. Top girl Lula Kinnish kept her brother Stanley, Daniel Minay, Kylan Murphy and Harrison Skillan at bay to take second place, while Liam Blake outran Archie Mulholland, Billy Kneen and Amelie Geldart for seventh. Twins Illiam and Ffinlo Thomas finished together in 11th and 12th places.

Tom Pickavance won the six-strong gallop for the honours in the born 2009 category. Cameron Hounsell was second closely followed by Zack Jones, Eddie Dillon, Jake Jones and best girl May-Saa Smith in third to sixth respectively. Abi Clayton got the better of Harry Beattie in the tussle for seventh and Henry Dormer managed to stay clear of a chasing group of five riders to claim ninth. Sean Crone pipped Florrie Thomas in the charge for tenth.

Peel’s T.J.Teare overtook Alec Sorby and Freddie Griffin on the finish straight to grab maximum points in the born 2008 race. Charlie Williams beat Fearne Bregazzi and George Kinnish in rush for fourth, with Edward Field winning the main bunch gallop for seventh. Deaglan Blake, Joel Long and Ryan Nelson rounded off the top ten leader board.

In the born 2007 event Cian Howard got the verdict in a tight sprint with co-escapee Orry Lund, grabbing the honours by the narrowest of margins. The fast finishing Florence Griffin progressed through the field to claim third in front of Rio Kelly, James Kinrade, Jordan Carter and Charlie Scarffe. Jemma Quayle and Jess Pickavance trailed in separately for eighth and ninth, while Thomas Monaghan had the upper hand on Ben Davies in the battle for tenth.

Ivan Sorby was too strong for Owen Collins, Aaron Corfield, Nicola Quaye and Samual Devereau in the final surge for the line in the born 2006 class. Tom Caine was a lonely sixth and the ever improving Sophie Smith came out on top in the nine rider dart for seventh.

James Devereau got the better of Frank Kinnish, Nathan Slack and Dylan Sewell in the scrap for the number one slot in the born 2005 and earlier grouping. James Scott overcame Emily Kinley, Callum Salisbury and Ella Griffin in the sprint for fifth, with Sam Cunningham passing and pulling away from Joshua Dudley to secure ninth.

In the under 10 racing bikes Cian Jackson spearheaded a seven strong leading group over the line to notch up his second victory of the series. Owen Collins was second and Ivan Sorby third. Myles Le Geyt was first under 8 rider home in seventh spot and Sophie Smith the top girl in 12th position.

Repeating the tactics that brought him success in round one, Zac Walker attacked in the early stages of the under 12 racing bikes and was never seen again. Ralf Holden chased hard but in the end had to settle for the runners-up spot. Cameron Dudley and Niall Colquitt clipped off the front of the chasing pack to grab third and fourth, with James Devereau surging ahead of Frank Kinnish and Kiera Prentice in the gallop for fifth.

The under 16 racing bikes twenty lapper was run at a fast and furious pace. A group of ten riders stayed together to the finish where Thomas Bostock took the sprint ahead of Ben Christian, Adam Scarffe, Max Walker, Tosh Teare, Will Draper, Adam Kelly, Harry Cain, Will Corkill and Lucas Mudie. The girls’ honours went to Amelia Sharpe in 13th position.
