News – Masters Road Championships

With less that a week to closing date (Noon on 1 May), the four race program for age groups 30-54 has attracted strong interest from Masters across the UK. To-date 243 (266 in 2015) entries have been received, with over 50% being “new faces” as follows:

AB = 51 (72); C = 66 (64); D = 68 (54); E = 58 (76) – numbers in ( ) are for 2015.

Race Director, Wayne Thomas, explained that in responding to increasing demand, that early negotiations with Thames Valley Police were successful in obtaining permission to not only maintain concurrent racing (without which we could not run these Championships) but to also increase each race field from 60 to 80.

These Championships are in 5 year age groups. To enter you must be at least 30 years of age by 31 December 2016 (ie. you could be 29 at the moment), and no older than 54 by 31 December 2016 (ie. if you turn 55 by 31 December, no race organiser has yet come forward for this category and above) and hold a full BC racing licence with the prefix of GBR in the UCI licence number.

These Championships are the keynote of the first day of the North Bucks Festival of Cycling, a two day extravaganza of road racing. Day two has the fourth round of the National Women’s Road Series as its grand finale on the afternoon of Sunday 29 May, whilst the morning is devoted to two supporting races – a 234 cat Central Road Race League event and an Under 23.2016_ShuttVeloRapideAdvert
