“We rode from the start” explained one of the NFTO riders given the job of riding on the front. “As soon as the break went, we’d been told not to give it much room and we started riding from kilometre 8 and carried on until we’d done around 100ks. It was a long day on the front.”

Asked how it felt to be doing that job in amongst WorldTour teams instead of it being expected like in British pro races? “It was an unbelievable experience. Some of the teams were pretty surprised to see us riding and pleased to see us riding and some less so!”

Edmund also had a few words about the crowds which the British pro road races don’t get even in Yorkshire but were certainly out in force for the Tour of Yorkshire. “Sutton Bank was unbelievable. In no point of my cycling career, have I ever seen anything like that. It is the kind of thing you expect to see in the Tour de France. It was a great experience.”2016_ShuttVeloRapideAdvert
