Report – Isle of Man Youth League
Another Big Turnout For RL360 Isle of Man’s Youth League
Compared to the wintry weather that forced the cancellation of the previous week’s racing, conditions were very good if a little cold for the 334 competitors who signed-on at the NSC last Tuesday night for round four of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league.
In the novices class Jack Monaghan rode away from the field for a clear win. Jasper Whalley held off Lucas Wootton in the dash for second, with Austin Baglow a solid fourth ahead of Jackson Roberts, who edged out Daniel Coates for fifth. Jacob Dawkins was a lonely seventh and Charley Skillen took the girls’ prize in a safe eighth spot. Billy Radcliffe and Max Wardle completed the top ten.
Finbar McSevney notched up his third straight win in the born 2011 and later age group, crossing the line with a sizable advantage over Bobby Kerruish and Bobby Kewley in second and third respectively. Joel Prentice ousted Macaulay Teare and Charlie Dormer in the tussle for fourth, while Joshua Moffitt kept the chasing bunch at bay to claim seventh. Leading girl Abigail Cowell came from behind to take the gallop for eighth ahead of Dylan Honeyman and Bernat Munoz-Fite.
Maintaining his unbeaten record, Brad Le Geyt went from the gun in the born 2010 race and was never challenged. Lula Kinnish clipped off the front of a chasing trio to grab second and Dylan Bullock held off Stanley Kinnish and Kylan Murphy in the fight for the final place on the podium. Harrison Skillan and Conor Madsen-Mygdal were sixth and seventh and Daniel Minay stayed clear of the fast finishing Liam Blake to secure eighth. Billy Kneen won the bunch sprint to round off the top ten.
Eddie Dillon pipped breakaway partner and round two winner Tom Pickavance for the honours in the born 2009 category. Cameron Hounsell outran Zach Jones in the battle for third, with Jake Jones coming in on his own for fifth. Harry Beattie overtook top girl May-Saa Smith in the closing stages to nab sixth and Abi Clayton kept Jonah Kenny, Max Masson-Whittaker and Florrie Thomas at bay to pick up eighth. Alex Hayes took the chasing group sprint for 12th.
In the born 2008 event Alec Sorby escaped from travelling companions T.J.Teare and Freddie Griffin to score maximum points for a second time. Fearne Bregazzi beat Joel Long and Deaglan Blake to the line for fourth, with Edward Field overcoming George Kinnish and Charlie Williams in the rush for seventh. Tiana Kelly spearheaded the six-strong group sprint for tenth.
Cian Howard inched ahead of Orry Lund to secure the victory in the born 2007 class. Rio Kelly and Jordan Carter lost contact with the two leaders on the final lap, trailing in separately for third and fourth respectively. Florence Griffin outpaced Charlie Scarffe for fifth and a tiring James Kinrade fended off Jemma Quayle and Jess Pickavance in the scrap for seventh. Thomas Monaghan rounded off the top ten leader board.
Owen Collins came off Ivan Sorby’s wheel to snatch the win in the born 2006 three lapper. Aaron Corfield just got the verdict over Nicola Quaye in the final spurt for third, while Samuel Devereau maintained station for a steady fifth. Rebecca Cooil claimed sixth in front of Sophie Smith and Tom Caine was the strongest in the bunch stampede for eighth.
A powerful attack on the opening lap was enough to give Jonty Bregazzi success in the born 2005 & earlier grouping. Four riders were left behind to fight over the minor placings with James Devereau grabbing second, Frank Kinnish third and Nathan Slack fourth. Tyler Annis and James Scott wrapped up the top six, with Emily Kinley taking the girls’ award in seventh spot.
Six riders were in contention for the honours on the final lap of the under-10 racing bikes. Approaching the chequered flag Cian Jackson surged ahead to take the victory. Owen Collins and Cian Howard were a close second and third followed by Ivan Sorby, Drystan Sewell and Orry Lund. Myles Le Geyt was the first under-8 in seventh place and Sophie Smith the best girl in 11th slot.
In the under-12 racing bikes an early attack by Zac Walker was quickly neutralised by Ralf Holden and Niall Colquitt. After biding his time for a couple of laps, Walker went again with three laps to go and stayed clear to the finish. Holden got away from Colquitt in the closing stages to claim second, with Tyler Annis fronting Cameron Dudley, James Devereau, Kiera Prentice and Frank Kinnish across the line for fourth.
A large leading group of twenty riders was gradually whittled down to ten at the finish where Thomas Bostock took the sprint from Will Draper and Max Walker. Will Corkill was the best under-14 rider in ninth spot and Amelia Sharpe, who was the last rider to be dropped by the frontrunners, the top girl in 14th position.
