Jon Mould became the most successful rider in Tour Series history winning his third round in 2016 at Abersywyth on Friday night as he joins Ed Clancy as the ‘winingest’ rider since the series began in 2009

Feature Report – Tour Series Aberyswyth
JLT Condor presented by Mavic cruised to a fifth win of the 2016 Pearl Izumi Tour Series as an electrical storm lashed the Aberystwyth circuit, causing the race to be shortened, to extend their lead at the top of the standings over Madison Genesis back out to three points.
The Series leaders were helped to their victory by a one-two for Jon Mould and Graham Briggs, with the Welshman picking up his second win on consecutive nights. The win also means Mould draws level with Ed Clancy as the most successful rider in Tour Series history, with eight wins to his name.
Mould’s victory also means JLT Condor presented by Mavic have a clean sweep of individual wins from all six events to be held in Aberystwyth since 2011 and every race in the 2016 Series.
On Aberystwyth’s technical circuit, a 17-rider group contested the finish in a fast paced race, with all the major teams represented at the front, but thanks to the efforts of Mould, Briggs, seventh placed Alex Frame and eleventh positioned Ed Clancy who helped secure the team win by two seconds.
Mould also moved into second position in the Chain Reaction Cycles Points standings, but Rory Townsend of Pedal Heaven extended his lead to 17-points. The evening’s Brother Fastest Lap went to NFTO’s Johnny McEvoy, who also took third in the race.
Highlights of the Aberystwyth event will be shown on ITV4 at 22 on Monday 30 May, with a repeat at 1025 on Tuesday 31 May. Highlights are also available on demand via the ITV Player.
The Pearl Izumi Tour Series resumes on Tuesday 31 May for the traditional visit to the cobbled streets of Durham, in what is always one of the most iconic events of the season, with the severe climb of South Street proving key to success.
Mould’s team mate Graham Briggs came second followed by NFTO’s McEvoy who, not only came third, but also set a new Brother Fastest Lap for the evening with a 1:33.05.
An emphatic display by team JLT Condor sees them take the team competition on the evening and therefore further extend their lead at the top of the series table.
Lap 2 and a rider from Raleigh GAC goes on the attack …
Madison Genesis, led here by Tom Stewart, then applied the pressure as a ‘unit’ at the front with Steven Roach of Raleigh GAC getting in amongst them.
As Jon Mould admits in his interview here, early on he was suffering at the back but that soon passed!
Splits soon started to appear in the sketchy conditions
Ed Clancy, in between very important Olympic track selections sessions at the velodrome, has dipped into the Tour Series and in Abersytwyth was on the front on a few occassions
Rory Townsend of Pedal Heaven taking more points for the jersey he wears as leader of the Points competition.
Graham Briggs who quipped whilst warming up he’d been doing a rain dance, got his wish and led the front group for the last few laps, going so fast, even the mighty Ed Clancy admitted to finding it impossible to move up. Briggs went on to finish second.
Jonny McEvoy had a great night, getting the fastest lap award
Rory Townsend consolidated his lead in the Points competition
But the Points on the night was won by Tom Stewart  of Madison Genesis
Team winners and leaders overall, are still JLT Condor
