News: Comp Record for Juniors Broken

Team Press Release

Adam Hartley (aged 17), who rides for the VCUK PHMAS Junior Race Team, broke the RTTC 10 mile Competition Record for Juniors last night.

The record has stood since 2012 with a 19:01 posted by Cannondale Pro Cycling rider Ryan Mullen and previously held by Alex Dowsett of Movistar with a 19:13 in 2005.

Adam rode the Hull City Road Club V718 Open event, setting off at 8:05pm, to record a time of 18minutes and 44seconds. This required an average speed of just over 32 MPH and took a whopping 17 seconds from Mullen’s time.

Adam set this goal at the beginning of the season and was delighted to deliver in his first attempt on this course. Recently Adam also rode in the International Three Days of Axel, over in Holland. This is a tough junior stage race with over 200 quality riders in the field.

Adam managed to finish 10th on General Classification, after four stages, but was also the highest placed British rider in the 11.2km Individual Time Trial (stage 2).

Last night’s result backs up Adam’s credentials as good time trialist to sit alongside his reigning National Hill Climb title (aged 17) and his road race success and victory at the National Junior Tour of the Mendips earlier in the season.

Adam would like to thank VCUK, PH Plastering (Otley), MAS Design, Champion System UK and Shark Composites for supplying the equipment, clothing and tremendous level of support over the past 18 months.
