Report: RL360 Isle of Man Youth League
(thanks Dot Tilbury)
Resuming after a two week break for the TT motorcycle races, round eight of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league was held at the NSC last Tuesday night in ideal conditions. A total of 283 competitors signed-on for the eleven race programme.
The novices took to the track first with Jasper Whalley powering away from the field to record his second success of the season. Lucas Wootton was a solid second and Jacob Dawkins edged out Eli Dawson for third. Charlie Christian led Jackson Roberts and James Cope over the line for fifth, with Isla Mulholland outrunning Daisy Teare, Evie Lund and Finlo Larkham to take the girls’ prize in eighth spot. Holly Foster headed a five-strong chasing group home to round off the top twelve leader board.
Preserving his 100% record, Finbar McSevney scored another impressive solo victory in the born 2011 & later age group. Carter Kneale was a lonely second and Bobby Kerruish held off leading girl Abigail Cowell in the dash for the final place on the podium. Joel Prentice fifth closely followed by Charlie Dormer and Joshua Moffitt in sixth and seventh places. Macaulay Teare came in on his own to grab eighth and Dylan Honeyman outsprinted Bernat Munoz-Fite, Poppy Clayton and Jacob Callister for ninth.
Stanley Kinnish was too strong for breakaway partner Brad Le Geyt in the final dash for the top slot in the born 2010 race. Kylan Murphy and top girl Lula Kinnish lost contact with the leading duo on the final lap, trailing in separately for third and fourth respectively. Conor Madsen-Mygdal pipped Liam Blake and Archie Mulholland for fifth, with Harrison Skillan just behind in eighth spot. Max Messenger got the better of Amelie Geldart and Daniel Minay in the battle for ninth, while Ffinlo Thomas beat brother Illiam to the line for 12th.
A group of seven riders fought over the honours at the end of the born 2009 class with Cameron Hounsell just getting the verdict ahead of best girl May-Saa Smith. Tom Pickavance was third, Zach Jones fourth, Matthew Hooper fifth, Eddie Dillon sixth and Jake Jones seventh. Harry Beattie stayed clear of Jonah Kenny and Abi Clayton for eighth, while newcomer Ethan Edge did well to oust Henry Dormer in the tussle for 11th. Finn Collister was 13th and Max Davies took the bunch gallop for 14th.
Alec Sorby picked up maximum points for the fifth time in the born 2008 event, taking the chequered flag in front of fellow escapee Freddie Griffin. Joel Long was a good third and Fearne Bregazzi headed Deaglan Blake in for fourth. Charlie Williams won the group charge for sixth, with George Kinnish, Ryan Nelson, Edward Field and Bob Radcliffe completing the top ten.
Cian Howard rode away from Orry Lund and Charlie Scarffe to take the victory in the born 2007 category. Florence Griffin was an unchallenged fourth and Jordan Carter overtook James Kinrade in the closing stages to snatch fifth. Jemma Quayle won the scrap for seventh ahead of Jess Pickavance and Ed Coole.
In the born 2006 category eventual winner Ivan Sorby had to work hard to chase down an early attack that very nearly came off for runner-up Aaron Corfield who was caught with the finish line in sight. Samuel Devereau grabbed third and Tom Darnill held off first girl Sophie Smith in the rush for fourth. In the following born 2005 & earlier grouping Jonty Bregazzi outsprinted James Devereau, Frank Kinnish, Dylan Sewell, Nathan Slack and Tyler Annis for his fourth win of the series. Ellan Griffin picked up the girls’ award in seventh spot.
Cian Jackson spearheaded a group of seven riders over the line to secure the victory in the under-10 racing bikes. Cian Howard was second followed by Owen Collins, Ivan Sorby, Drystan Sewell, Orry Lund and Alec Sorby, with Charlie Scarffe, Sophie Smith and Freddie Griffin coming in a few seconds later to wrap up the top ten.
Repeating the tactics that has brought him success in the previous rounds, Zac Walker went from the gun in the under-12 racing bikes and stayed clear to the finish. Chasers Ralph Holden and Niall Colquitt were second and third, while the ever improving James Devereau won the bunch gallop for fourth from Tyler Annis and first girl Kiera Prentice.
In the under-16 racing bikes twelve riders managed to stay with the pace at the front of the race. At the finish it was Will Draper who took the win from Adam Kelly and series leader Thomas Bostock. The under-14 honours went to Will Corkill in ninth place, with Amelia Sharpe the first girl in 12th position. … continued after advert
