The 2016 Beverley East Yorkshire Classic was decided in a bunch kick won by Chris Lawless from Seb Mora and Albert Torres (both Raleigh GAC).

After two support races (results below), the pros were lined up around 8pm and took little time to get up to speed. The race began with lots of little moves off the front but for a long while most of the action was at the back as the frantic pace set by the pros was catching out the riders just not used to racing at the speeds the pros were doing.

Chris Lawless on the attack very early in the race and gaps opening up behind

But then a small group got a way with most of the teams represented and the group started to grow in numbers as one by one, a few more riders bridged across to it. Riders in it included Seb Mora (Raleigh GAC), Chris Lawless, Dale Appleby, James Lowsley Williams, Gruff Lewis and Tobyn Horton (both Madison Genesis), David McGowan and Jacob Tipper (Pedal Heaven).

With Raleigh GAC not happy that Mora was out numbered with some of the teams having two riders in the move, they put the team on the front of the peloton to bring the move back. With the gap to the leaders coming down, the attacks in the break started with Horton and Mora going clear. McGowan bridged to them whilst behind the pace was flat stick and the gaps getting ever smaller between groups.

Easy to see why Beverley  is a round of the series the riders enjoy with a huge crowd lining the barriers to cheer them on. Yorkshire loves a bike race!

The pressure from Raleigh GAC in the peloton eventually saw the leaders brought back and it was game on with more attacks going everywhere but on a dry night, the pace was so high none of the breaks were sticking. It was going to be a bunch kick with some very rapid sprinters going albow to elbow and as he did at Otley and in two rounds of the Tour Series, Lawless proved too quick for the rest with Raleigh GAC defending their positions in the series with second (Mora) and Torres (third).

Then a break formed at the front led here by Seb Mora (Raleigh GAC) and James Lowsley-Williams

But Raleigh GAC had the firepower to bring the break back led here by Fraser Martin and Richard Hepworth

With the gap coming down, Seb Mora (Raleigh GAC) and Tobyn Horton (Madison Genesis) escaped.

Lawless meanwhile was doing his best to escape to the riders out front

David McGowan of Pedal Heaven managed to do that but the gaps between groups was now very small

And so the race came together and the teams started to set up the race for their sprinters – Ian Wilkinson (Pedal Heaven) working for their leader in the closing laps.

The end result though was a win for Lawless from Mora and Torres
