Due to the clash with Tynwald Day (the Isle of Man’s national holiday), there was a slightly smaller than usual turnout of 210 riders at the NSC last Tuesday night for round eleven of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league.

In the novices race Jack Monaghan rode clear of the field to notch up his fourth win of the series. Jasper Whalley edged out Charlie Christian for the runners-up spot and Daniel Coates held off top girl Charley Skillen and Austin Baglow in the tussle for fourth. Harry Tummon came from behind to snatch seventh from Jacob Dawkins and Lucas Wootton, with Evie Lund finishing on her own to complete the top ten.

Finbar McSevney went from the gun in the born 2011 & later age group, crossing the finish line with a clear advantage over Carter Kneale in second place. Dylan Honeyman outsprinted Charlie Dormer, Bobby Kewley and Joel Prentice for third, with leading girl Abigail Cowell a safe seventh. Bernat Munoz-Fite pipped Joshua Moffitt for eighth and Poppy Clayton led Eva Pavlova in for tenth. Cameron Eyres beat Toby Costain in the dash for 12th and Finlo O’Neill won the bunch sprint for 14th.

A determined Stanley Kinnish caught and passed lone escapee Kylan Murphy on the final circuit to bag maximum points in the born 2010 class. Brad Le Geyt was third, closely followed by Harrison Skillan, Daniel Minay and first girl Lula Kinnish. Archie Mulholland was a safe seventh and Noah Lewis overcame Hugh Osborn and Max Messenger in the scrap for eighth. The rest of the field came home in dribs and drabs with Alfie Kinrade leading the way in 11th spot.

Three riders got away on the last lap of the born 2009 event and stayed clear to the finish where Cameron Hounsell beat Tom Pickavance and best girl May-Saa Smith in the final rush for the line. Matthew Hooper had the upper hand on Zach Jones, Harry Beattie, Jonah Kenny and Abi Clayton in the fight for fourth, with Sean Crone just off the back in ninth spot. Henry Dormer ousted Florrie Thomas in the main bunch gallop for tenth.

A seven-strong breakaway group contested the finish of the born 2008 category, with Alec Sorby taking the honours ahead of Freddie Griffin, Fearne Bregazzi, Charlie Williams, Edward Field, George Kinnish and Joel Long in second to seventh respectively. Leon Murphy headed Jamie Gibson in the scrap for eighth and Tiana Kelly outgunned Ella Darnill and Ryan Batty to round off the top ten leader board.

Cian Howard had to repel strong challenges from Orry Lund, Charlie Scarffe and Rio Kelly before sealing the victory in the born 2007 class. Florence Griffin, James Kinrade, Jemma Quayle and Jess Pickavance trailed in separately to claim fifth to eighth places, while regular frontrunner Jordan Carter recovered from an unshipped chain to salvage ninth. Relative newcomer Charles Boyd did well to pip Thomas Monaghan and William Kennish for tenth.

In the born 2006 three lapper Owen Collins edged out Ivan Sorby in the final scramble for the chequered flag, with Nicola Quaye maintained station in third place throughout the race and Samuel Devereau kept Sophie Smith. Rebecca Cooil and Nathan Kinrade at bay to take sixth.

A blistering attack on the finishing straight gave Jonty Bregazzi his seventh success of the season in the born 2005 and earlier grouping. Nathan Slack won the seven-strong chasing group gallop for second, with Ella Griffin pipping Megan Boardman for the girls’ prize in seventh place.

Ivan Sorby produced one of the rides of the night in the combined under-8 and under-10 racing bikes, outsprinting his ten breakaway rivals to pick up his maiden win of the series. Round ten winner Cian Howard was second and overall leader Cian Jackson third. Owen Collins, Orry Lund and first girl Sophie Smith made up the top six.

In the under-12 racing bikes Zac Walker went from the gun, leaving the rest of the field in his wake to fight over the minor placings. Ralf Holden won the charge for second ahead of Niall Colquitt, James Devereau, Tyler Annis and Kiera Prentice.

The riders in the U/14 and U/16 racing bikes put on a great show of aggressive racing. A leading bunch of eleven riders were in contention at the finish. Will Draper attacked in the closing stages and gained a small gap which he just managed to hold onto to the finish. Thomas Bostock was second and Adam Kelly third, with Will Corkill the top U/14 rider in tenth place and Amelia Sharpe the first girl in 11th position.  … continued after advert
