News: Derby Arena Track Open
Team Press Release
Derby Arena’s first open track cycling competition attracted some of the top cyclists from around the country and the world, including a current World Champion in Seb Mora of Raleigh GAC
One the menu for the day of racing were well known track events such as a Scratch Race, Points Race, the Elimination event, the 10 Mile GP scratch race and the fast and furious Madison where two riders hand sling each other in and out of the race.
In that latter event, it was a one-two for the Raleigh GAC team with Sebastian Mora and Albert Torres winning from young Jack Escritt and Evan Oliphant. In the A scratch race, Jack Escritt (Raleigh GAC) was second to Frank Longstaff with Albert Torres 4th and Sebastian Mora 5th.
The World Scratch Race champion Mora was second, again to Frank Longstaff, in the Elimination race but in the main race, the Grand Prix Scratch race, Mora turned the tables on Longstaff with victory and the team had the bonus of Torres in third who also tasted victory winning the Points race with Evan Oliphant in 4th.
The team owner Cherie Pridham was pleased with the racing which came at a very busy time for the squad who were second and third the night before in the Beverley Pro Crit (East Yorkshire). Cherie said of the event “We have a great relationship with Derby Arena, in particular Phil Kilpatrick and his team. It’s been a pleasure to be able to bring the lads down, and race the track leagues, training sessions and the Derby GP at the weekend was a massive success”.
“The team is based in Derby and has tremendous support from our sponsors Toyota GB, Don Amott Leisure, Smith Cooper, Raleigh UK and University of Derby so it was a natural fit for us to be here and support the event”.
“Having three of the best track endurance riders in the World, based in Derby, where they are able to train and race on such a beautiful track is amazing for us. It was the first time I also had the honour of seeing Seb and Albert in full flight in a Madison. It was a very enjoyable night and all credit the organizers and the riders and fantastic crowd.
