News: Gold for GB at Euros

The Great Britain quartet of Ethan Hayter, Matthew Walls, Reece Wood and Fred Wright broke the British junior record for the Team Pursuit, held by Owain Doull, Simon Yates, Dan McLay and Sam Harrison to take the Junior Men’s European title on Tuesday.

Fastest in qualifying on the Italy track at Montichiari, Hayter, Walls, Wood and Wright raced the final flat out to record a stunning time of 4:04.142 and afterwards, Reece Wood said “It’s the biggest event I’ve ever been to and it’s great to come out with gold.”

The team also came out of day 1 with some bronze medals for the junior women’s team pursuit and both junior men’s and women’s team sprint line-ups.

In the Junior Women’s team pursuit, Eleanor Dickinson, Lauren Dolan, Rebecca Raybould and Jessica Roberts beat their Polish rivals to win their bronze medals in a time of 4:39.350. In the Team Sprint, Lauren Bate-Lowe and Sophie Capewell won their bronze in the Women’s event whilst Alexander Joliffe, Lewis Stewart and Hamish Turnbull (46.838) beat Germany to finish third in the Junior Mens Team Sprint.

In other events, Eleanor Dickinson was fourth in the Junior Women’s Scratch race and in the Junior Men’s Scratch, Rhys Britton was seventh.

In the Under 23 Individual Pursuit, Matt Gibson was 10th and Joey Walker 19th in the Mens event whilst Hayley Jones was 14th and Megan Barker 17th in the women’s.
