The second pro crit in the Elite Circuit Series in three days was held tonight (Friday) in Abergavenny on a course used for quite a few years for this annual event. WIth the GP of Wales on Sunday, the field wasn’t exactly packed with the stars of British racing but there were many on the start line with world and British champions among them.

Madison Genesis kicked off the racing with Matt Cronshaw leading for many a lap until he was brough back with the likes of Jon Mould and Pedal Heaven visible at the front to get back control of the race. Then the flat stick racing saw a gap open and a small group was away. Riders such as Bibby knew it was the move and so there was a scramble from riders to get across and whilst some did, many did not.

One of the riders making his way across the gap to the leaders was Ian Bibby along with Adria Moreno (Raleigh GAC) just behind.

The race was then made up of two front groups separated by 20 seconds or so and other groups being lapped and out of the equation. Up front, Raleigh – GAC were applying the pressure and whilst series leader Felix English was the group, the pressure from Raleigh-GAC saw English dropped and it was then down to the team of Seb Mora to keep the pressure on which they did.

The likes of Adria Moreno and Matthieu Boulo kept the pace high with Boulo even trying a late move to soften up the others for Mora. Once Boulo was brought back, the sprint to the line started a few laps out and the final lap saw a lot of elbows and shoulders touching with riders having to unclip at times. Bibby had the best of it and he led all the way to the line whilst Tanfield won a much tight sprinter between himself, Mould, Mora and Zach May for the minor placings.

The fourth by Mora should see him take the series lead whilst Tanfield will have moved himself closer to English and Mora after a great week so far in Wales.

With a corner to deal with after the finish, no time for a celebration but Bibby was pleased to win in the stripes.
