Result: Newbury RC Open 15

With temperatures reading 33 degrees, James Boyman (Farnham RC) broke 30 minutes to win the event in 29:48 – a new course record by a minute. Riders rarely break the 30mph mark on the 10 mile version of the course, so to break it in the 15 shows what a stellar ride it was.

Phil Watts (North Hampshire RC) took second place in 32:12 (which also won him the first vets’ prize in +8:54) with Benjamin Allen (Westerley Cycling Club) taking third place, just four seconds adrift of Watts (32:16). The home club’s Claire Kitching (Newbury RC) took first place in a tight ladies’ competition; her 36:19 just eight seconds clear of Therese Coen of London Phoenix. The team prize went to Newbury RC.
