The eighth races of this year’s NMRRL featured Groups B & C using the Torworth circuit for the penultimate time.

DSCF5422

The Group B race burst into life on the 2nd of the 7 lap race when Jason Elliott (Dinnington RC) & Steve Bunting (Rutland CC) opened up a 10 second lead. A lap later and it was the turn of Robert Fowler (Rutland CC) trying to open up a gap.

With 3 laps to go, it was now Graham Walton (Common Lane Occasionals) & Richard Wilkinson (Rutland CC) gaining a 10 second lead on the bunch with Jez Reynard (Common Lane Occasionals) just about make to make contact with the leading duo. A lap later, it looked like a breakaway had finally established itself with Walton & Wilkinson having been joined by Rob Blackburn (TLI) with trio holding a 15 second lead on the rest of the field.

At the bell, the trio had maintained their advantage, so it was just a question as to whether they could hold off the bunch.

Unfortunately, their hard work was in vein as the bunch caught the leading trio in the closing stages setting up a bunch sprint which was clearly won by Jack Rowland (Harworth & District CC), ahead of Joseph Law (Broomwagon RT) with Daryl Plant (Out of the Saddle CC) & Andrew Cutts (Team Bottrill) in 3rd & 4th places respectively. Bunting who was placed 2nd behind Rowland was disqualified due to a traffic violation.

Rowland’s 4th win out of 6 races ensures he has an unassailable lead in the Group B Overall Standings. Behind him, Law and Plant have moved into 2nd & 3rd.

DSCF5436

The Group C race set such a quick pace that, at one point, looked as though they might catch the Group B race which had set off 2 minutes in front. The fast pace didn’t bode well for breakaway attempts and the only one of any significance happened with 3 laps to go when a trio of Ross Limbert (BBM Revolution), Chris Cunningham (Out of the Saddle CC) & Edward Davies (7 Hills CC) opened up a small advantage on the bunch, but a lap later it was all back together.

The closing 2 laps were ridden at a more sedate pace and the resulting bunch sprint was clearly won by William Hagyard (Rutland CC) ahead of Davies taking 2nd place with Robert Parker (TLI) just pipping Mark Ellis (Mansfield Road Club) for 3rd.

The absent Mark Barnard (Out of the Saddle CC) still leads the Group C Overall Standings with John Catley (Barnsley Road Club) missing a chance to catch or narrow his lead. Davies’ 2nd place enabled him to move into 3rd.
