Kirsten Wild wins the WorldTour RideLondon Women’s Classique in central London in the 66 kilometre kermesse with Hannah Barnes 9th and sister Alice 10th
The race started the twelve laps of a 5.5 kilometre course which started on on The Mall in St James’s Park, before heading up Constitution Hill, turning at the top to come down and onto Birdcage Walk, then passing Big Ben before heading down Whitehall and right onto the Strand before turning again to come back up the Strand, through Trafalgar Square, Admiralty Arch and back onto The Mall.

The race was also the richest in the world which was enough of an incentive for the riders to take on the race from the word go which they did.
A break of three grew to five and pushed the speed of the race up and got things going nicely before the break was brought back only for more attacks to go with Dani King and Claire Rose just two of the Brits showing themselves.
Being a WorldTour event, the line up was dominated by foreign teams and they also dominated the breaks with a lot of the action at the back as the pace and the dead turns seeing many riders spat out the back. Â … continued after advert
In the first sprint with 1,000 Euros on offer, Lucinda Brand, part of a small break, sprinted across the line with the peloton on their heels. For the second sprint, another small break had escaped but were unable to hold on for the big money and in the bunch kick for the prime, Alexis Ryan won well ahead of Bertizzolo and Lucinda Brand who added to her tally.
One more sprint was left and whilst the attacks continued, nothing was getting far as the race passed iconic London landmarks like Buckingham Palace and Big Ben to name but two.
The Aussie Jessica Allen did manage to open a few seconds with four laps to go and one before the final sprint. She was joined by Pieters and Drexel but it was brought back before the rush to the line for sprint 3 won by Sarah Roy with the second for Lucinda Brand seeing her clinch the overall Queen of the Sprints competition.
The rest of the race was pretty uneventful but on the final lap the teams were starting to form for their sprinters whilst others waiting to attack were up there.
British riders Dani King, Hayley Jones and Grace Garner were among those in the front few. Bigla started the sprint trains before Liv Plantur and then HiTec and the riders were getting jumpy as the pace got quicker and quicker.
Hannah Barnes was 9th after she had a teammate making the pace in the rush to the line Kirsten Wild won from Kesseler , one place ahead of younger sister Alice. “I had a bit of a bike malfunction as I started to sprint,†said the 23-year-old Canyon SRAM star. “I felt really good and I was in a good position, but my gears jumped a bit with 200m to go. It’s never happened to me before but there was nothing I could do. I’m a bit upset because it would have been a nice race to win in front of these big home crowds.â€
Winner Kirsten Wild said afterwards “It was a really good race I have looked forward to it for a few weeks and when I saw this finish line, I thought that’s my finish line. Winning is always good but especially with this big prize,†said Wild of the 25,000 Euros cheque she pocketed for her efforts. “It is always good to win and it was a nice fast race. Racing on these big famous streets is really cool.”
“I had done a lot of training and I was ready for it. But you can never tell what’s going to happen in a sprint. At first I thought I was too far back at the last corner, but then I started to pass a lot of riders and I knew I could do it,†she said. “It was all down to really good teamwork. We have worked really well together in the past and we know what to do, so that makes my job easy.â€
