Madison Genesis have been selected for the 2016 Tour of Britain, following a five-month qualification process in UK races

Team News: Madison Genesis Selected for Tour of Britain

The team will ride in Britain’s most prestigious stage race for the fourth consecutive year, having met qualification criteria set by the event organisation earlier this year.

Points were allocated based upon finishing positions in races including the Tour de Yorkshire, Tour Series and British Cycling’s Spring Cup, GP Series and national championships. Only four of the six British-based continental-registered teams gained selection – Team Wiggins taking an automatic spot, based on having the highest British finisher from the 2015 edition of the race.

Team manager Mike Northey explained how the season-long campaign impacted upon racing, with the incentive always under consideration. “All season we have had Tour of Britain selection at the forefront of our mind – we would finish races and look for how the result would impact qualification. That’s the level of importance we place on being in the race and it’s with a sense of achievement and anticipation that we can now complete our preparations, ahead of September.”

With selection secured, the team now travel to France for a training camp, before a series of continental races in anticipation of the start of the tour. The 2016 Tour of Britain starts in Glasgow on Sunday September 4 and concludes in London on Sunday September 8. Team selection will be confirmed shortly ahead of the race.
