One of the most popular add ons to a bike is a wheelset. One for training, one for racing, one for climbing, one for crits etc etc.
The top of the range carbon wheel set from Cero is the clincher based RC45 where the 45 refers to the depth in mm) This wheelset superseded a 50 mm deep section wheel a few years ago and has seen it move to a wider‘U’ shaped profile rim rather than the traditional ‘V’ shaped one it had before.
The change in shape, says Gareth Hewitt, Cycle Division Manager, and a former racer in Premier Calendar events and crits, helps make the wheel more stable to ride in cross winds and is better accommodated to a wider tyre.
The wheelset, unlike some of the Cero wheelsets, is not as yet available for tubeless tyres but does share the same hub and spokes as the AR30, ie; Sapim CX-RAY lightweight semi aero spokes combined with a lightweight hub set (sub300gms) giving a total weight of 1,480gms for the pair of wheels which makes them really light and ideal for so many different types of races. To help you stop them from turning, Cycle Division also supply the wheels with their own propriety brake pads.
“Being a carbon braking surface, and to maximise the braking performance and heat management you need to use our carbon specific brake pads†says Gareth “and these are one of the best brake pads I’ve ever triedâ€.
The front wheel has a radial spoke pattern on the front and is two cross on the rear. There are 20 spokes in the front and 24 in the rear wheel.
Asked to sum up the wheelset, Gareth says “these are not just aero wheels but also light so a great help when the road goes up. It’s a really nice fast wheel set that always helps make a bike look even better. They’ve had great reviews, not just from magazines but customers as well with a price that is well below that of some of the more well known brands.
“Quality without the price hike†he added.
To match the wheels, Cero also have carbon bottle cages, handlebars, mini pumps and a new Garmin mount on the way. There is also a full carbon disc brake wheelset in the range which is new for this year and they have just taken delivery of
