Season Review: Adria Moreno (Raleigh GAC)
The team’s leading road rider in 2016 was Girona’s Adria Moreno who won the Spring Cup and was third in the GP Series. In the final race of the season, Adria – as he has been all season – was at the front of the action and finished 8th.
Overall, Adria had a fine season with twelve top tens and two third places in major National Events (Ryedale GP and Tour of Reservoir) and was part of the team when it won at Durham in the Tour Series. He also won the KoM prize on the Isle of Man.
He says, “I am happy with my season but a bit sad because we miss qualifying for the Tour of Britain which was one of my big goals of the season. Next year …†He explained his best race was at Lincoln (7th), fighting for the win and winning the Spring Cup. “That was really important for the team, for me and our sponsors†he says.
“And the most disappointing race? “May be Velothon (Wales), because I did a good race, and felt good enough to finish in the top 10, but I spent a lot of energy in the break. Totnes Two Day too on the last day (he was in yellow) because my teammates did a really good job for me, and I lose the race in the last kilometres.â€
Adria in yellow as his team fight to contain a break in awful conditions at the race for the season year
In 2016, Adria made his debut with the team and when asked whether the season was better or worse than he expected before a pedal was turned in anger, he replies “It was better than I expected. I told Cherie in the training camp I wanted to get good results in the road series and did thatâ€.
Adria is now back in Girona ready to start preparing for next season. Because professionals are not allowed in non uci races, he doesn’t expect to get any more racing there but is happy he has the best conditions for training and is really motivated already for next season.
Nice and sunny on the Isle of Man, rumoured to be the favourite for the British RR champs in 2017. In 2016 Adria was climbing well and won the KoM prize (above).
