Former Tour of Britain jersey winners Mark McNally and Boy Van Poppel are among the latest riders to be confirmed for the Tour of Britain. Alongside them will be a brace of Italians in double Giro d’Italia Points Classification winner Giacomo Nizzolo and this year’s Amstel Gold Race winner Enrico Gasparotto.

Van Poppel and Nizzolo will line-up for the UCI WorldTour team Trek Segafredo, who ride in Britain’s biggest professional cycle race for the first time since 2011. 28-year-old Van Poppel won the Chain Reaction Cycles Points Jersey in the 2012 Tour of Britain, finishing in the top three on four of the stages.

Nizzolo has won the Points Classification in the Giro d’Italia for the past two editions and is the reigning Italian National Road Race Champion. The 27-year-old has been in fine form in 2016, coming third in the Hamburg Cyclassics race at the weekend and winning a pair of stages in the Tour of Croatia this Summer.

McNally, who has ridden the Tour of Britain on seven previous occasions, won the SKODA King of the Mountains in the 2014 race. The 27-year-old pulled on the jersey in his home city of Liverpool on Stage One, and wore it throughout the race. Riding alongside him in the provisional Wanty Groupe Gobert line-up will be this year’s Amstel Gold Race winner Enrico Gasparotto, who has twice won the biggest Dutch single-day Classic, and former Paris Tours winner Marco Marcato.

They join the likes of Olympic Silver medallist Mark Cavendish and multiple Tour de France stage winners Andre Greipel, Rohan Dennis and Steve Cummings as already confirmed for the Tour of Britain.
