Steve Ellis and Phil Lindley winners at the final round of this year’s NMRRL featured Groups A & C on the Serlby circuit

It was all action from the start in the Group A race with Jamie Tune (Bikeboxalan) holding a narrow lead over Ben Turner (TLI) at the end of the first lap with the bunch 12 seconds back, but a lap later and the field was all back together. At half distance, Steve Ellis (Out of the Saddle CC) was on the attack, opening up a 12 second lead over a trio of Ashley Brown (BBM Revolution), Bradley Hatfield (Out of the Saddle CC) & Luke Allen (Sheffrec CC) with the bunch 35 seconds behind.

A lap later and Ellis was still out in front on his own with the gap on the three chasers increasing slightly to 15 seconds but the bunch closing to 30 seconds. At the bell, Ellis was still persisting with his attack, but the bunch were now closing in just a few seconds behind so it wasn’t looking too good for Ellis.

However, help arrived in the form of Allen who jumped across the gap and the leading duo survived all the way to the finish where Ellis just outsprinted Allen to take a well deserved win. A chasing group of four contested the sprint for 3rd place, 23 seconds back which was won by Jack Stephenson (Out of the Saddle CC) ahead of Turner, Brown & Rob Mitchell (Out of the Saddle CC). Gary Hides (Out of the Saddle CC) won the sprint for 7th place out of what was left of the bunch.

Stephenson’s 3rd place secured the Group A NMRRL title with Mitchell in 2nd and Ellis’ win moving him into a tie for 3rd place with Andy Nichols (Langsett Cycles RT).

The Group C race was a rather uneventful affair with the only attack of any note occurring at half distance when William Hagyard (Rutland CC) opened up a narrow lead over Zach Law (Cycle Division) with the bunch only 8 seconds back and the race was soon all back together again and it stayed that to the finish.
The bunch sprint was won by Phil Lindley (Mansfield Road Club) ahead of Robert Parker (TLI) & Hagyard with Edward Davies & Jacob Perkins (both 7 Hills CC) rounding off the top five.

Davies’ 4th place was just insufficient to knock Mark Barnard (Out of the Saddle CC) off the top spot in the Group C Overall Standings. Barnard’s 9th place secured 2 points which was just enough for him to take the NMRRL Group C title by the slender margin of one point. Ross Limbert (BBM Revolution) remained in 3rd place.
