Report: Isle of Man Youth League 19

There was a good turnout of 222 competitors at the NSC last Tuesday night for the 19th and final round of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s 2016 Youth League.

Overcoming a stiff head wind on the finishing straight, Jack Monaghan got the better of breakaway partners Daniel Coates and Jasper Whalley in the dash for the top slot in the novices class.

Eli Dawson edged out Austin Baglow in the battle for fourth and Charley Skillen pipped Safiya Laagayed for the girls’ honours in sixth place. James Cope, Evie Lund and Jackson Roberts completed the top ten.

In the born 2011 & later category Finbar McSevney went from the gun and stayed clear to the finish. Bobby Kerruish headed chasers Charlie Dormer and Bobby Kewley over the line to grab second, with Macaulay Teare holding off Joel Prentice, Bernat Munoz-Fite and Joshua Moffitt in the scrap for fifth. The fast finishing Toby Costain made up ground in the closing stages to snatch ninth from Cameron Eyres and top girl Poppy Clayton got past Samuel Kinnish in the final few metres to seize 11th.

Brad Le Geyt had the extra pace to beat fellow escapee Stanley Kinnish in the final rush for first place in the born 2010 age group. Harrison Skillan outgunned Kylan Murphy, Liam Blake and Lula Kinnish in the tussle for the final podium position, while Daniel Minay overcame Archie Mulholland and Ffinlo Thomas in the fight for seventh. Illiam Thomas came in on his own to round off the top ten.

Tom Pickavance continued his recent run of good form in the born 2009 event, riding away from five frontrunners to secure his fifth win in succession. Cameron Hounsell ousted Eddie Dillon, Zach Jones and May-Saa Smith for second, while Abi Clayton spearheaded Matthew Hooper, Harry Beattie, Henry Dormer and Charlie Clarkson over the line for sixth.

Leading from start to finish, T.J.Teare kept nearest rival Joel Long at bay to score his second success of the series in the born 2008 race. Deaglan Blake forged ahead of Fearne Bregazzi on the last lap to claim third and Edward Field clipped off the front of the chasing pack to bag fifth. Leon Murphy won the charge for sixth ahead of Ella Darnill, Jamie Gibson, Tiana Kelly and Oscar Christian.

In the born 2007 class Cian Howard rode away from breakaway partners Orry Lund and Charlie Scarffe on the final lap, taking the chequered flag with a healthy advantage over his two pursuers. Rio Kelly overtook Jordan Carter to pick up fourth and Jess Pickavance came out on top in the struggle for sixth with Jemma Quayle and Ben Davies. Ed Coole and Joseph Devereau wrapped up the top ten leader board.

Samuel Devereau and Nicola Quaye stole a march on the rest of the field at the start of the born 2006 event and stayed clear to the finish where Devereau landed the win. Nathan Kinrade outran Tom Darnill and Rebecca Cooil in the dart for third, with Lucy Field just behind in sixth spot. In the following 2005 & earlier grouping Dylan Sewell went from the gun and time trialled to victory. Frank Kinnish had the upper hand on Blae Cain in the scamper for the runners-up spot and Nathan Slack got away from Callum Salisbury to nab fourth.

In the combined under-8 and under-10 racing bikes Cian Howard and Ivan Sorby broke away on the second of four laps and were never caught. At the finish Howard got the verdict in the sprint for the line, with Drystan Sewell a solid third. Alec Sorby broke free from Orry Lund to grab fourth and Charlie Scarffe won the five-strong sprint for sixth. Nicola Quaye was the best girl in ninth place.

Four riders were in contention at the end of the under-12 racing bikes. James Devereau led the sprint out and held onto his position in pole position all the way to the line. Niall Colquitt was second, Tyler Annis third and Cameron Dudley fourth, with Kiera Prentice and Frank Kinnish, who were both with the leaders until the penultimate lap, just behind in fifth and sixth respectively.

A fast moving front group of eight riders took control of the under-16 racing bikes. In the final gallop Will Draper came through to take the win from Thomas Bostock, Adam Kelly, Max Walker, Tosh Teare, Ben Christian and Adam Scarffe. Errigal International Youth Tour winner Will Corkill lost contact with the leaders with two laps to go, finishing an unchallenged eighth. Aaron Lund and Tyler Hannay were ninth and tenth with Amelia Sharpe the best girl in 11th position.

The league’s final overall standings will be revealed at the prize presentation in the Villa Marina on Saturday, 17th September.  … continued after advert
