There was a welcome return of the sun at the penultimate round of the Brooks Cycles Track League at The Lyme Valley Velodrome

Results: Brooks Cycles Track League

After last week’s league was rained off it was a welcome return of the sun as the penultimate round of the Brooks Cycles Track League at The Lyme Valley Velodrome, Newcastle under Lyme, took place on Thursday 1st September.

The night started with the Freewheelers racing the numbers up on previous weeks as the school holidays come to an end. Special mention goes to Aaron Flye who won his first race at the league but later took a tumble in the final race.

The league send their best wishes out to him for a full recovery. After a full program of racing the top points scorers were as follows in each group
Group 1 Brandon McMillan Lyme RC 10 points
Group 2 Daniel Jones Lyme RC 8 Points
Group 3 Harley Johns Newcastle RC 2001 8 points

The main league started with the final round of the 500m Handicap League. Using his good mark to the best advantage George Hancock ( Lyme RC ) won the event in fine style with Josh Spendelow ( Brooks Cycles ) second and Josh Dunham ( Team Swift ) third.

Joel Partington, Sean Mayer and Barney Swinnerton, all Swinnerton Cycles won the team sprint in a close race with Phil Houlton ( Brooks Cycles ) Josh Spendelow and caleb Hill ( Lyme RC ). In the sprint final Joel won in a photo finish from Sean and Phil Houlton in third.

In the A endurance events Joel Partington took the opening 10 lap scratch race. Paul Whatmough ( Shepherd Cycles ) won the course de primes and the devil before Joel won the final 20 lap scratch.

In the B endurance races Farley Barber ( Lyme RC ) won the 10 lap scratch, 20 lap scratch and the devil races with Charlie Fisher ( Newport CC ) winning the course de primes. Both riders rode aggressively all night and have both made massive strides this year.

In the nights C Class race Nick Moore ( Newcastle RC 2001 ) won the 5 lap scratch from Mick Stubbs ( Newcastle RC 2001 ) and Sallie Birchall ( Lyme RC ) in third.

The youth events saw Harry Ledingham-Horn ( lyme RC ) have a good night as he won all these races in taking the block handicap, devil, course de primes and scratch.

Next week is the last league event of the year so hopefully we will get a good turnout to send off the 2016 season in style.
