Tour of Britain Chat: Partridge & Bibby

NFTO

Rob Partridge
“I worked out that a third of my life every September, has been spent at the Tour of Britain” Rob explained. He was on the start line of the first Tour of Britain (by Sweetspot) way back in 2004 and says since then the highlights have included getting in many a breakaway.

“2010 was a big highlight for me when I was top 10 and first British rider in a year that was a breakthrough for me really. Another one was the year Frederick Willems won into Birmingham (2006 stage 4). I was in the break with G (Geraint Thomas), Cav and all these big names and me in a tiny team getting absolutely pummelled for 130k or what ever it was”.

“It is always nice to pit yourself up against some of the big names in the national tour though. It is getting harder every year when they always seem to find the hardest smallest roads but it’s part of the race and why a lot of the big names come here to get a hard race before the worlds. If you win a stage of the Tour Britain these days, you’re doing well”.  … continued after advert

Ian Bibby. Winner of two Prems in 2016 including the Manx International, the former Crit champion says his season has been pretty good and he’s happy how it’s gone.
Asked what he and the team are looking to do in the race, he says “we’ll be looking for breakaways I think and the KoM jersey, something like that. As a team, we just want to be up there every day getting ourselves on TV”.

To prepare for the race, he says “We’ve been to Belgium and did a mental race there with 60k off road. We’re all fit and made sure we were in decent shape to race in Belgium”. And a stage he’s looking forward to – the summit finish at Haytor.
