World Cup Cross: Best ever finish for Field

There was a 9th place for Helen Wyman and a best ever result in a world cup for Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles Ridley) in the second round of the World Cup Cyclo-Cross in the USA

Women’s Race
A leading light in Women’s Cyclo-Cross for the last decade, Helen Wyman continued to battle it out at the front in the World Cups with a 9th place at the second round, the Jingle Cross Iowa City.

The tough course involved a steep climb up Mount Krumpit and the Holly Jolly Hell Hole swamp mud pit but it was the addition of rain that turned the event into a true mud-churned classic which may well have suited the British riders. Amira Mellor, aged just 19, finished 25th.

Men’s Race
Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles – Ridley) had his best ever result (11th) in the Men’s race, bettering the 12th at the Milton Keynes World Cup where he was 12th. Ian was 24th in round 1 of the 2016 series at CrossVegas.

Ian said after, “the race went really well. I got a good start and settled in around 15th and then just managed to pick guys off as they faded. So close to a top 10!”

“Really proud day for everyone involved. Just happy that all the time and effort from everyone who supports me can be repaid with results like that.

The men’s race was won by world champion and CrossVegas victor, Wout van Aert.

Ian backed up with a 16th in another event the following day saying on twitter “Not much left in the tank today @JingleCross C1. Everything hurt. Rolled in 16th but more than happy with my weekends work.”
