Michael Burke (Welland Valley CC) took honours in a tensely fought Finsbury Park Regional A Road Race today on the rolling Rickling Green circuit on a glorious early autumn day in Essex.
Several riders attacked a strong field in an attempt to force a break with James O’Connell (Regents Park Rouleurs) particularly active, picking up three primes and the King of the Mountains competition in the process.
But on the final climb to the finish the field were all together and it was Michael Burke, who had achieved his first category licence only a few days after the race’s closing date, who proved the strongest, powering to the win by several bike lengths.
