Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles) and Evie Richard the two big winners at round 2 of the National Trophy CX in Abergavenny
Result: National Trophy 2
Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles –Ridley) and Evie Richards were the big winners at round 2 of the National Trophy in Abergavenny.
NOTE: Overall series points tables are here on VeloUK
The final race of the day was a great battle between two world ranked riders, Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles and Yorben Van Tichelt. Early on they had to give best to Bill Harding who took off like a shot with Steven James chasing but it was soon the Field and Van Tichelt show.
The two lapped the course putting time into the riders behind and for a while Field was biding his time but then as he’d planned, when he went to the front, he did so hard and gapped the Belgian who had beaten him in Derby.
Admitting later that Van Tichelt was recovering from illness, he was still a formidable opponent and Field didn’t take prisoners and carried on opening up the gap to solo to the win. Van Tichelt was second and Billy Harding held on to his gap to those behind and was third and first Under 23. British champion Liam Killeen was 6th after having to start from the back when late for gridding.

WOMENS
In the Women’s event, a nervous Evie Richards, world under 23 champion in the rainbow bands making a stunning sight on the start line, was the solo winner. At the start, the nerves were easy to see and she was practicing her start over and over.
In the end, it went fine and she gapped the rest to lead on the first lap. A group of four were chasing and from them, Beth Crumpton riding an Estrella bike, got clear and bridged to Richards. Crumpton even gapped the world champion for a short period but on the long straights, the power of the world champion was too much for Crumpton and Richard soon reversed the roles and broke clear of Crumpton. That was how it stayed with series leader Hannah Payton fading and Annie Simpson crossing the line in third on her own.
