News: Parkinson to Join Drops
Drops Cycling Team are pleased to announce that Abby-Mae Parkinson will join the team in 2017.
Abby-Mae has shown great promise during her first season racing at UCI level and we’re pleased that she has chosen Drops to continue her development. This season has seen Abby-Mae ride a mixed race programme which included the classics and the Giro d’Italia among other stage races. Her season culminated in being selected for GB to support Lizzie Deignan in the recent Road World Championships in Doha where she played a key part in the support team during the race.
Team Director, Bob Varney commented, “We’ve been monitoring Abby-Mae’s career since she won the National Junior Road Race in Ryedale in 2015. She is a real bike racer, that much is obvious. A very ambitious and versatile rider, who will fit perfectly into our set up. She took the brave decision to move abroad earlier this year, making her debut at Gent Wevelgem, which she completed in tenacious style.Â
“Having met Abby-Mae in Doha during the recent world championships. She is certainly an impressive young lady, who I know impressed her GB teammates during those championships. It didn’t take us very long to come to the conclusion that we wanted Abby-Mae on the team next year. She is a very talented all rounder, equally at home in the classics and stage races, where her ability against the clock is real asset.â€
Abby-Mae commented on the move, “I am delighted and grateful to be riding for such a positive and professional team as Drops. The team has great ambitions and a world class programme which allows me to continue to race at the highest levels of the sport. This year the team is taking a further step forward and it’s great to be able to join a UK team who have such a passion for supporting their riders.
“My aim is to continue to improve my performances in particular in the classics and big stage races which I enjoy so much. I hope to prove my worth to the team and also continue my involvement with the GB Elite team at some major international events. I have spent this season working for my teams and I believe that teamwork is critical, I’m excited to be working with the rest of the Drops team and supporting them in any way I can.â€
The whole team at Drops look forward to welcoming Abby-Mae to the team. The transfer is subject to the regulatory process with Abby-Mae’s contract commencing with Drops from January 1 2017.
