The early season leg burner that heralds the start of a new season, The Hell of the Ashdown (HOTA) Sportive will once again hit some of the hardest Cols and Climbs in the South of England on Sunday 19th February 2017.

The 2017 route has been toughened by adding a few extra kilometres and additional climbing. HOTA organiser Steve Airey, reports ‘Without doubt this will be the hardest route we have managed to devise, it will test any riders early season form, ability and resolve. We have included the major climbs of Cudham Test Hill, Toys Hill, Markbeech, Wych Cross, Twyford Lane, Colemans Hatch (The Wall), Groombridge, Hobbs Hill, Hubbards Hill, Hogtrough Hill, and Berrys Hill. In all that’s eleven climbs totalling almost 1900 metres of climbing over a distance of 107 kilometres’.

‘We’ve also listened to riders comments as we want to maintain our status of being the hardest, best run Sportive in the South of England, so we will be returning to our popular tried and tested Headquarters at Charles Darwin School, Jail Lane, Biggin Hill, which the riders seem to prefer. We’ve also introduced a Group Discount, which many of the riders have asked for before, so now if you enter as a team of 6 – 10 riders you can get a 10% discount! We hope these changes will keep us at the forefront of the Sportives in the South!

The first group of riders will hit the road from 8am onwards and follow a course that is fully marshalled and signposted. For added rider safety on the route there will also be NEG roving motorbikes, this along with mechanics (Supplied by Sidcup Cycles) makes the HOTA as safe as we can to run the event for the riders. Full catering will be available at the HQ (Start and Finish) along with Free nutrition supplied by OTE, (who also sponsor the clubs Elite team – CatfordCC Equipe/Banks) at the two indoor feed stations at the Ashdown Forest and Sevenoaks Weald.

Entry for the event opens this week and with only 1500 places available early registration is recommended as places sell out very fast. Two charities will be supported in 2017; Pepenbury (www.pepenbury.info) and The Chartwell Cancer Trust (www.chartwellcancertrust.co.uk) A brand new exciting HOTA website is online giving full information on all aspects of the event and details of how to enter at www.hell.gb.com For any further information please contact the event organiser, Steve Airey, at hell.ashdown@yahoo.co.uk
