The line up for the 2017 Nuun-SigmaSport-London Race Team has been announced with four new signings
News: Nuun-SigmaSport-London Race Team
Following the team’s most successful year-to-date which included multiple National Masters titles on the track for Tom Hargreaves, the overall win at the Masters Vuelta Mallorca for Rob Moore, a strong team showing at the 2016 Pearl Izumi Tour Series and becoming the Surrey League Team Time Trial Champions, Nuun-Sigma Sport-London is pleased to announce its new team roster for the 2016/17 reason.
Tom Hargreaves won Masters titles in the Scratch, Points and Individual Pursuit.
The team was established to demonstrate that it is possible to compete at a high level whilst maintaining full-time jobs and family lives, to serve as an inspiration to ordinary cyclists and make racing both more approachable and achievable.
For 2017, the team has bolstered its line-up with four new signings bringing added strength and depth:
Lewis Atkins: Lewis joins from the Pedal Heaven Academy team. Lewis brings a huge amount of racing experience to the team and is a proven winner. In 2015, Lewis was ranked No.1 Elite rider in the BC rankings, a title he has claimed twice. Despite a year plagued by injury and illness, Lewis still managed 12 wins.
Henry Latimer: Henry joins from PMR-Toachim House and is another very experienced rider and in 2016 enjoyed seven individual road and five time trial victories. Henry is looking forward to a strong season with a mix of National A and National B road races.
Barnabus (Barny) Purbrook: Barny joins the team from London Dynamo. Still relatively new to the sport, Barny is no stranger to performing at the highest level having played professional rugby for four years. Barny earned his Elite license in 2016 and has impressed with his raw power. One to watch in 2017 as he refines his race craft.
Mike Smith: Mike joins from Cycle Works and earned his Elite license in 2016, taking the Masters Criterium Championship title along the way. Mike is a strong team player and fast finisher.
Nuun-Sigma Sport-London competed in Tour Series rounds at Redditch, Stevenage, Croydon and Portsmouth.
Nuun-Sigma-Sport-London is also pleased to welcome on board their first youth rider in, Riley Searle. Riley has shown real early promise both on the road and track. The team is looking forward to helping nurture this talent and help his development as a cyclist, learning from a squad with a depth of experience.
Departing the team for a new team is Lawrence Carpenter. Lawrence achieved a top 25 place at the Lincoln GP, placed in the top five at several National B road races and was part of the team that won the Surrey League TTT champs in September. “We would like to thank Lawrence for his efforts and enthusiasm and wish him well at his new team†says Fraser.
Team Manager, Cameron Fraser says, “2016 was a year of mixed fortunes. We had a number of riders on great form coming off our training camp in Mallorca however illness took out half the team shortly after. The team built on their strong showing at the Pearl Izumi Tour Series to take multiple Masters Criterium and Track medals and titles, individual TT wins, strong performances at the National 10/25 and Circuit championships and our season was capped off with a victories in the Copa Europa Masters and Vuelta Masters Mallorca where we also finished 1st team on GCâ€.

“With our new signings, we have a stronger team than ever before and look to carry our late season form into 2017 now that the team has gelled. In addition, I would also like to personally thank our Director Sportive Chris Halls and team mechanic Max Knott for their support and input this year.â€
The team is extremely fortunate to again be supported by a number of London based and International sponsor partners. The team takes a modern approach to activating their sponsorships through their various social media platforms. Twitter, Facebook and Instagram all play a big part in the team’s promotion and engagement with sponsors and fans. True to their grass-roots approach to cycling and racing, the team regularly takes part in social rides from Surrey based Sigma Sport.
Robert Moore winning the Vuelta Masters Mallorca 2016 (Nuun-Sigma Sport-London 1st team on GC).
Talking of the team’s sponsors, Fraser adds, “On behalf of Nuun-Sigma Sport-London Race Team I would like to thank the following sponsors as without their support, none of this would be possible. We will be welcoming a new partner on board for 2017 in the form of CLIF Bar who will be supplying the team with energy bars, gels and Shot Bloks.â€
