Only days after stepping off a 24 hour plane ride from the UK, the riders in the JLT Condor team dominated their Aussie rivals to win the Bay Crits in Victoria with Ian Bibby and Matt Gibson second.

Bay Crits – Race 3 – Bibby Wins Series

Only days after stepping off a 24 hour plane ride from the UK, the riders in the JLT Condor team dominated their Aussie rivals to win the Bay Crits in Victoria with Ian Bibby and Matt Gibson second.

Whilst the races did not have the depth of competition the Tour Series does in Britain, there was a WorldTour team in Orica Scott and also a smattering of European based pros there to be beaten and the British team with the help of an Irishman and Aussie, did just that.

The final race was in the bay outside Melbourne (Williamstown) and on a straight forward pan flat circuit, the ‘men in blue’ controlled the front of the race. They had ten riders to work with which helped. Each team has six riders in the race but with numbers down, the British team was invited to field a second team which they did and they raced in white jerseys.

And with Mat Gibson from the ‘white’ team in second place, they had the perfect opportunity to use all ten riders to control all but the final few laps when Orica Scott took it up for their man Caleb Ewan. The British team, winner of the team award as well, then used their experience to help the local Aussie Brenton Jones into position to take on Ewan.

This he did well in the sprint, finishing second to Ewan, and getting closer than he has in the past to the young Aussie speedster and showing what speed he has before he comes to Britain to race there.
