News: Clayton Velo Spring Handicap

The closing date for the 51st Clayton Velo Spring Handicap (Lancashire) is February 5th. The race sees riders put in groups and then set off at different times with the Juniors first and the last group to head off the line being the Elites in the scratch group.

The race is on the 26th of February at 10am near Clithero and is over a distance of 95km / 59 miles.

In 2016, newly crowned National and European Junior Cyclo cross Champion, Tom Pidcock was the first ever Junior to pull off the win in this classic season opener in the North West. That win came after a nail biting chase down by Ian Wilkinson of Pedal Heaven, who emerged from the splintered scratch group late on.

It was not enough and Pidcock and team mate Rob Scott held off ‘Superman’ at the line. Fitting tribute perhaps that Pidcock used the Wilko trademark pose when winning at Bradford last weekend, can he repeat it at Clitheroe on the 26th of Febuary.

Entries close on the 5th of Feb
