News: Totnes Vire – 2 Day Stage Race
Mid Devon CC Club News
Totnes – Vire is a two day stage race that dates back to 1974 and celebrates the twinning of the two towns. It’s one of the longest established races in the UK calendar and a history can be found here in this PDF TotnesVire –
The classic terrain of the South Hams area has led to some immense battles with previous riders winners include Darryl Webster, Mark Bell, Peter Longbottom, Jon Locke and our own Mike Parker. Last year Matt Holmes (Madison Genesis) was first after taking the yellow jersey from Raleigh GAC’s Adria Moreno on the final stage.
On the 22nd and 23rd April the Mid Devon CC will organise the 44th edition of the Totnes – Vire. They are keen that the National B event maintains its position as a quality race and remains aspirational for South West riders. With a growing National series calendar and with the UCI level Cicle Classic taking place on the same date, Mid Devon CC extend the invitation to regional clubs to participate in the 2017 event.
“We believe that with the right mix of regional and national level competitors the event will achieve its goal and provide a platform for South West riders to excel” say the club.
The scene is set for some exciting racing and with a Time Trial stage taking in the Torquay coastline, a circuit race at the Torbay Velopark and a challenging road race stage on the rolling roads around Okehampton it’s sure to be a classic promotion.
Here are the details of the race programme:
