News: Tobyn Horton on Tour Series

from … Gordon Wiseman

Tobyn Horton (Madison Genesis) has been a regular competitor in the Tour Series and the British pro scene as a whole. He says of the 2017 series, “From what I’ve been told, the whole series is now being held in May so it’ll be 21 days of intensive weeks racing, a pretty hectic month overall.”

“But I think the whole calendar works better this way as we can focus on the crits before moving back to full-on road racing. It’ll be an exciting month for us all.

Tobyn is currently on a training camp with his team Madison Genesis and in December we spoke to him about his 2016 which was an up and down season but did have the highlight of a top 10 in RideLondon (8th). Other results in 2016 included 4th in the British Crit champs, 5th in the Leicester Castle kermesse, 3rd in the Sheffield crit and 5th in the crit at Beverley.

Part of the winning team for the Tour Series in 2015, he says “after we won in 2015, we were just pipped by JLT last year so obviously, we’ll be wanting to turn the tables on them in 2017. We only ever enter races to win them but crits can be unpredictable affairs and there’s a fair bit of luck involved as well so as a team we’ll be relying on each other to do what we need to do to get individual race wins but also to go for the whole series again as we did in 2015”.

“From what we’ve seen and been told, the Wembley circuit is certainly going to be a different one for us but with it being new that’s the same for everyone. But with the race going around Wembley Stadium, it’ll be an iconic race for us all as well. And crit racing in London always seems to bring out the big crowds. I have a pretty good record in London races so this is one round I’ll be looking forward to!”
