Round two of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league was held at the NSC last Tuesday night in dry but cold conditions. Even though many of the regular competitors were missing due to the Easter holidays, there was still a good turnout of 244 riders for the eleven race programme.

Repeating her tactics from round one, Poppy Clayton went from the gun in the born 2012 & later age group and stayed clear to the finish. Oliver Kennington outpaced Seamus Hall and Gracie Evans to grab the runners-up spot, with Max Wardle leading Isabella Edwards, Austin Baglow and Henry Kinrade over the line to for fifth. Kieran Binns and Finley Quirk completed the top ten.

Lukas Wooton held off Jackson Roberts and Lewis Stephens to take the top honours in the novices class for the second week running. Leading girl Clodagh Briercliffe pipped Orry McSevney for fourth and Pheric Lennon stayed ahead of the main chasing group to grab sixth. Elijah Clague beat Benjamin Bradshaw in the bunch sprint for seventh.

In the born 2011 category Finbar McSevney gradually pulled away from the field for a decisive solo victory. Impressive newcomer Jacob Wilson was a solid second and Charlie Dormer led Bobby Kerruish home to secure the final place on the podium. Top girl Abigail Cowell had the edge on Dylan Honeyman and Bobby Kewley in the dash for fifth, while Toby Costain caught and overtook Macaulay Teare to bag eighth. The fast finishing Erin Morgan worked her way through the field to grab a well-deserved tenth place.

Stanley Kinnish was too quick for breakaway partners Brad Le Geyt and Daniel Minay in the charge for the chequered flag at the end of the born 2010 event. Harrison Skillan outran Kylan Murphy and Liam Blake for fourth, with Conor Madsen-Mygdal getting the verdict over top girl Lula Kinnish in the battle for seventh. Ffinlo Thomas and Max Messenger rounded off the top ten leader board.

Eddie Dillon collected maximum points in the born 2009 race, taking the win in a hotly contested sprint finish with May-Saa Smith, Tom Pickavance, Cameron Hounsell and Zach Jones. Harry Beattie was a lonely sixth and Abi Clayton led Florrie Thomas and Henry Dormer home in the fight for seventh.

In the born 2008 class Alec Sorby beat fellow escapees Joel Long, Freddie Griffin and Deaglen Blake in the final dash for the line. Charlie Williams trailed in on his own for fifth and George Kinnish led a splintered chasing group in for sixth. Ella Darnill was the first girl in seventh position.

A blistering attack on the final lap earned Cian Howard the victory in the born 2007 two lapper. Orry Lund snatched second from Rio Kelly in a very close finish and James Kinrade got the better of Charlie Scarffe and Florence Griffin in the three-way gallop for fourth. Jess Pickavance, Cory Corkhill and Caitlin Beaty completed the score sheet.

A nine-strong group contested the sprint at the end of the born 2006 & earlier grouping with Ivan Sorby eventually grabbing the top slot ahead of James Scott and Kiera Prentice. Blae Cain, Chloe Dillon and Callum Salisbury wrapped up the top six.

Cian Howard was in a class of his own in the U/8 & U/10 racing bikes, leading from start to finish to secure his second success of the night. Orry Lund led the charge for second in front of Rio Kelly, Alec Sorby, Freddie Griffin, Joel Long, Myles Le Geyt and Charlie Scarffe. The first girl was Florence Griffin in 11th spot.

Niall Colquitt and Drystan Sewell set a fast pace at the front of the bunch in the U/12’s race. However, at the finish it was Tyler Annis who came through to take the win from Owen Collins. The hard working Colquitt salvaged third ahead of Ivan Sorby and Sewell in fourth and fifth, with the girls’ prize going to Sophie Smith in ninth place.

With the light fading fast, the U/14 & U/16 event was reduced to 15 laps. Three riders broke away with four laps to go and stayed at the head of affairs to the finish where Adam Scarffe took the win from Will Corkill and James Harrison in second and third. Matthew Cooil was the top U/14 in fourth place and Amelia Sharpe the first girl in fifth. Corrin Leeming, Tyler Hannay, Jack Christian and Aaron Lund were the only riders not to be lapped in sixth to ninth positions respectively.
