Q & A: Tom Hargreaves (Nuun-Sigma Sport-London)

Q1: How did you get into cycling
I live in London and wanted to cycle to work rather than getting the tube. Commuting turned into the occasional weekend ride and then I decided to give racing a go.

Q2: Whats your favourite discipline in cycling?
Crits are my favourite types of races. I prefer the shorter, sharper efforts.

Q3: Are you a full time rider or do you have to juggle work with cycling?
I have a full time job, so cycling has to fit around that. However I now work for Zwift so its nothing but bikes for me now :-)

Q4: What was your first race in 2017
I started early this year and raced the Hillingdon winter series. From there it was Perfs and Jock Wadley.

Q5: How did your first race go? Whats your race report?
I won the Hillingdon series and managed a top 20 in both Perfs and Jock Wadley.

Q6: What bike do you race and why have you chosen this specific bike?
I race a Cannondale Super Six Evo Hi-Mod. It’s stiff and light, perfect for racing.

Q7: What are you looking forward to most racing for your team next season?
The Mallorca Masters stage race was a real highlight last October, so I’m looking forward to that again.

Q8: What is the best piece of racing equipment you are most proud of?
The new Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon SL clincher wheels that I’m on this season have been really impressive so far. The braking is fantastic in both the wet and dry and they’re very comfortable without compromising how rigid they are under power.

Q9: What are your goals for 2017?
I’d like to retain the 3 Masters national titles I got on the track last year and hopefully pick up some good results from National B road races and crits along the way.

Q10: Finally, how can racing on the roads be improved in your opinion?
Some form of accreditation like track racing would go a long way to improve the standard of riding.
