Report:  Isle of Man’s Youth Cycling League

A total of 300 riders turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round seven of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league, the final event before the annual two week break for the TT motorcycle races.

Poppy Clayton extended her winning streak in the born 2012 & later class, outsprinting Cameron Eyres for the victory. Charlie Quine edged out Noah Hutchinson for third and Oliver Kennington held off David Leece, Kieran Binns and Bethany Chapman-Beale in the battle for fifth. Isabella Quaye was a lonely ninth and Henry Kinrade pipped Martin McParland-Skillen for tenth.

In the novices race Aedan Le Roux beat Lukas Wooton to the line for his second success of the series. Leading girl Isla Mulholland and round six victor Clodagh BrierCliffe were a safe third and fourth, with Jackson Roberts ousting Sophie Halligan and Elijah Clague for fifth. Harvey Wagstaffe, Holly Beattie and Ewan McCubbon completed the top ten.

Finbar McSevney had to overcome strong challenges from breakaway partners Jacob Wilson and Bernat Munoz-Fite before notching up his seventh straight win in the born 2011 category. Bobby Kerruish got the better of Charlie Dormer, Toby Costain, top girl Erin Morgan and Joshua Moffitt in the gallop for fourth, while Sam Wolstencroft won the charge for ninth ahead of Cal Joyce, Dylan Honeyman and Samuel Kinnish.

Laxey’s Stanley Kinnish had the edge on Brad Le Geyt and twin sister Lula Kinnish in the tussle for the top slot in the born 2010 age group. Conor Madsen-Mygdal kept the fast finishing Kylan Murphy at bay for fourth and Harrison Skillan surged ahead of Max Messenger to secure sixth. Billy Kneen was eighth and Alex Colquitt grabbed ninth in a close battle with Ffinlo Thomas.

Six riders contested the finish of the born 2009 event with Harry Beattie eventually getting the verdict over Tom Pickavance, May-Saa Smith, Abi Clayton, Cameron Hounsell and Eddie Dillon. Zach Jones trailed in for seventh and Henry Dormer was too quick for Max Whittaker in the tussle for eighth. Matthew Hooper rounded off the top ten leader board.

Alec Sorby outgunned travelling companions Freddie Griffin, T.J.Teare and Deaglen Blake in the final dash for the honours in the born 2008 class. Charlie Williams was fifth and first girl Fearne Bregazzi snatched sixth from Bob Radcliffe. Nathan Hubbard eased ahead of George Kinnish for eighth and Leon Murphy secured tenth a short distance in front of Ella Darnill.

In the born 2007 class Cian Howard made his race winning move on the finishing straight, taking the chequered flag with a clear advantage over fellow frontrunners Orry Lund and Rio Kelly in second and third places. James Kinrade held off Jordan Carter for fourth and Florence Griffin took the girls’ prize in sixth spot.

Kiera Prentice broke free from a seven-strong leading group to bag maximum points for the sixth time in the born 2006 & earlier grouping. James Scott fended off Ivan Sorby for second and Callum Salisbury spearheaded the all-girl quartet of Mairi Harrison, Nicola Quaye, Ella Griffin and Sophie Smith over the line for fourth.

Cian Howard rode away from the field on the second lap of the combined U/8 & U/10 racing bikes and stayed clear to the finish. Myles Le Geyt took the sprint for second closely followed by Orry Lund, Alec Sorby, Rio Kelly, Charlie Williams, Freddie Griffin and Charlie Scarffe in second to eighth respectively. Toby Horsey was ninth and Fearne Bregazzi the first girl in tenth position.

In the U/12 racing bikes Niall Colquitt was too fast for Owen Collins and Tyler Annis in the dart for the top step on the podium. Ivan Sorby was fourth and Frank Kinnish edged Callum Salisbury for fifth, with Sophie Smith heading Nicola Quaye over the line to pick up the girls’ award in seventh spot.

Strengthening his position at the top of the overall standings, Max Walker outsprinted James Harrison and Will Corkill for the top slot in the U/14 & U/16 racing bike 25 lapper. Tosh Teare was fourth followed by Adam Scarffe, Aaron Lund, Corrin Leeming, the much improved Dylan Sewell and leading girl Amelia Sharpe. Tenth placed Tyler Hannay took the U/14 honours by the narrowest of margins from Matthew Cooil.

Please note that the next round will be on Tuesday 13th June.
