Report from the Clay Cross Team

Round 5 of the East Midlands Road Race League. Sunday 11th June 2017

Clay Cross RT continued their dominance of the East Midlands Road Race League on Sunday taking a one-two and the teams second win of the weekend.

Held on the Six Hills course in Leicestershire, it featured challenging cross winds and a punchy climb to the finish. At around half distance, a small break developed and Dean Watson and Fergus Robinson jumped across to join Jake Birkin giving Clay Cross RT 3 men in the 10 man break. This was the break of the day and soon settled down into a rhythm and forcing the gap to around a minute on the bunch.

With three in the break, Clay Cross could afford to take some chances and when Jake Birkin attacked at the foot of the final climb nobody could go with him allowing him time to finish in style. Fergus Robinson took the sprint for second place and took a few more league points from rival and current league leader Bradley Symonds (Team PB Performance) who finished 3rd.

With Dean Watson taking 6th and Freddy Pett winning the bunch sprint for 11th  Clay Cross have consolidated their lead in the team points classification. Toby Bartlett having won at Leeds the previous day finishing comfortably in the bunch.
