RL360 Isle of Man Youth League Round 8

Eager to get back into action after the two week break for the TT motorcycle races, a total of 253 competitors turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round eight of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s Youth League.

In the born 2012 & later age group Cameron Eyres scored his maiden win, taking the chequered flag with a clear advantage over the previously unbeaten Poppy Clayton. Seamus Hall and Oliver Kennington were a safe third and fourth, with David Leece leading a chasing group of twelve riders home for fifth. Henry Kinrade, Isabella Quaye, Gracie Evans, Austin Baglow and Bethany Chapman-Beale completed the top ten.

Isla Mulholland outgunned Clodagh Briercliffe to bag maximum points for the second time in the novices class. Jackson Roberts forged ahead of Elijah Clague to snatch third and Harvey Wagstaffe pipped Aditya Varshney, Lewis Stephens and Sophie Halligan for fifth. Newcomer Ben Leece did well to finish 18th on his debut.

Maintaining his 100% record, Finbar McSevney beat breakaway partner Bernat Munoz-Fite to the line to secure the win in the born 2011 category. Sam Wolstencroft was a solid third and Joshua Moffitt overtook Charlie Dormer on the finishing straight to grab fourth. Samuel Kinnish outran Cal Joyce and Erin Morgan for sixth, while Dylan Honeyman and Bobby Kerruish recovered from a coming together to salvage ninth and 11th. Abigail Cowell was the top girl in tenth spot.

Stanley Kinnish notched up his seventh success in the born 2010 event, getting the better of Brad Le Geyt and Kylan Murphy in the final dash for the line. Conor Madsen-Mygdal led Lula Kinnish, Billy Kneen and Ffinlo Thomas in for fourth, with Daniel Minay holding off Liam Blake, Thomas Hutchinson and Harrison Skillan in the fight for eighth. Max Messenger kept Alex Colquitt and Archie Mulholland at bay to claim the final place on the top twelve leader board.

A determined May-Saa Smith edged out Tom Pickavance in the sprint for the top slot the born 2009 race. Harry Beattie overcame Cameron Hounsell, Zach Jones and Abi Clayton in the scrap for third, with Henry Dormer just behind in seventh place. Max Whittaker, Jazzy Dillon and Matthew Hooper rounded off the top ten.

Joel Long picked up his first win in the born 2008 race, getting the verdict over series leader Alec Sorby, Freddie Griffin and Deaglen Blake in the gallop for the chequered flag. Charlie Williams maintained his place ahead of the fast finishing Nathan Hubbard to claim fifth and George Kinnish stayed clear of Fearne Bregazzi for seventh.

Cian Howard went from the gun in the born 2007 class and time trialled to a decisive solo victory. Orry Lund had the pace to beat Oscar Gaylor and James Kinrade in the tussle for the runners-up spot, with Charlie Scarffe and Cory Corkhill finishing separately in fifth and sixth places. Jess Pickavance took the girls’ prize in eighth position.

In the born 2006 & earlier grouping Kiera Prentice attacked on the penultimate lap and soloed to her seventh win of the series. James Scott won the bunch sprint for second in front of comeback rider Cameron Dudley, Ivan Sorby, Callum Salisbury, Chloe Dillon and Mairi Harrison.

Repeating the move that brought him success in his previous outing, Cian Howard attacked at the start of the U/8 and U/10 racing bikes and was never seen again. Orry Lund took the chasing group gallop for second a short distance ahead of Charlie Williams, Alec Sorby, Charlie Scarffe and Oscar Gaylor who wrapped up the top six.

Eight riders contested the finish of the U/12 racing bikes with Niall Colquitt eventually coming out on top in the final rush for the line. Tyler Annis and Owen Collins were second and third closely followed by Ivan Sorby, James Scott, Drystan Sewell, Callum Salisbury and Frank Kinnish. Oliver Corkish was ninth and leading girl Sophie Smith tenth.

There were attacks on almost every lap in the U/14 & U/16 racing bikes. Will Corkill’s effort in the closing stages was the most promising but he was caught with just four of the twenty five laps to go, leaving Max Walker to grab the top slot in the final sprint. Adam Scarffe was second and Corkill third. Jack Christian was the best U/14 rider in a good sixth place and Amelia Sharpe, who had been very active at the front of the race, the first girl in 11th spot.
