Report: Isle of Man’s Youth League

A total of 254 riders turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round 13 of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s Youth League.

In the born 2012 & later class Poppy Clayton forged ahead of breakaway partner Seamus Hall on the finishing straight to secure her ninth win of the series. Cameron Eyres held off Oliver Kennington, Charlie Quine, Bethany Chapman-Beale and Gracie Evans in the dash for third, with David Leece pipping Kieran Binns in the battle for eighth. Martin McParland-Skillen led Isabella Quaye over the line to round off the top ten.

Jackson Roberts gapped the field at the start of the novices race and soloed to victory. Lukas Wooton was a safe second and Aditya Varshney beat Elijah Clague and leading girl Clodagh Briercliffe in the rush for third. Lewis Stephens overtook Ewan McCubbon and Isla Mulholland in the closing stages to snatch sixth, while Sophie Halligan kept Naomi Nesbitt at bay for ninth. Elliott Dowd-Williams edged out Lucia Osborn for 11th and impressive newcomer Jenson Riding led the main chasing group home for 13th.

In only his second appearance in the league, Alex McCullagh scored a fine maiden victory in the born 2011 age group, outgunning the more experienced Charlie Dormer and Jacob Wilson in the final dart for the chequered flag. Toby Costain led Carter Kneale and first girl Erin Morgan in for fourth, with Bobby Kerruish taking the bunch gallop seventh. Abigail Cowell, Dylan Honeyman and Sam Wolstencroft completed the top ten leader board.

Stanley Kinnish led from start to finish in the 2010 event, increasing his tally of wins to eight. Kylan Murphy outgunned Brad Le Geyt for second and Harrison Skillan beat Liam Blake in the tussle for fourth. Daniel Minay was a lonely sixth and Conor Madsen-Mygdal was too quick for Ffinlo Thomas and Billy Kneen in the scrap for seventh. Lula Kinnish took the girls’ prize in 12th place.

Eddie Dillon emerged from a leading group of four riders to bag maximum points in the born 2009 category. Tom Pickavance was second closely followed by Cameron Hounsell and Abi Clayton in third and fourth. Harry Beattie, Henry Dormer and Zach Jones lost contact with the four frontrunners on the final lap, trailing in separately for fifth, sixth and seventh places respectively. Matthew Hooper was eighth and Max Davies clipped off the front of the main chasing bunch to claim ninth.

In the born 2008 class Deaglen Blake got the better of series leader Alec Sorby in the final sprint to take the honours for the second week in succession. Charlie Williams was third and Leon Murphy got the better of George Kinnish, T.J.Teare, Fearne Bregazzi and Nathan Hubbard in the hotly contested sprint for fourth. Bob Radcliffe and Jonty Shimmin came in together to wrap up the top ten.

Securing the series overall honours in style, Cian Howard attacked his six travelling companions on the penultimate lap and time trialled to his tenth victory. Orry Lund edged Rio Kelly and James Kinrade for the runners-up spot, with Jordan Carter and Oscar Gaylor just behind in fifth and sixth places. Florence Griffin was the first girl home in eighth position.

In the born 2006 & earlier grouping Ivan Sorby gradually pulled away from chasers Callum Salisbury and Chloe Dillon to score a decisive win. Nicola Quaye overcame Samuel Devereau in the eight-strong bunch gallop for fourth.

Cian Howard went from the gun in the under-8 & under-10 racing bikes and left the rest of the field in his wheel tracks to fight over the minor placings. Alec Sorby pipped Charlie Williams in the group gallop for second with Fearne Bregazzi was the best girl in 12th spot. Eddie Dillon and Abi Clayton were the top under-8 boy and girl in 10th and 18th positions.

Six riders broke away at the start of the under-12 racing bikes and stayed together to the finish where Niall Colquitt grabbed the win. Tyler Annis took second ahead of Owen Collins, Ivan Sorby, Callum Salisbury and Drystan Sewell. Frank Kinnish was a solid seventh and Nicola Quaye the first girl in eighth spot.

The under-14 & under-16 racing bikes split into three separate groups, with the front six eventually lapping the field. At the finish it was Tosh Teare who grabbed the win ahead of Adam Scarffe, Will Corkill, Aaron Lund, Amelia Sharpe and Tyler Hannay, who was the leading U/14 rider.
