After sitting at the rear of the bunch for a couple of laps Isle of Jersey rider Kimberley Ashton – CASP Racing showed her racing experience by attacking at the right moment to win the latest Women’s Team Series race based around Naseby, finishing a minute in front of the main peloton. This marked the first Team Series win for Kimberley but we suspect not the last.

A depleted race field due a BCF series event on the same day that clashes, the race was run off under indifferent weather skies but really well organised by Phil Rayner and the Welland Valley CC on a good racing circuit, tremendous long term sponsorship was from well known local wine merchant Duncan Murray.

After just a couple of kilometres Hannah Rightini-Brand attacks but she was caught quickly. Another two attacks but generally it was a wearing down day with rain catching the riders, then with 3 kilometres to go Kimberley upped her game and sped away.

Speaking after the race Kimberley said “I was hoping for a top 6 placing but I felt good as the race went on. It is always difficult to come to races in the mainland from Jersey as we receive no Government support of funding so I do all this myself. It is my hobby so I would rather spend my money on this great sport than on some other things”.
