Report: Isle of Man Youth League Rd 14

A total of 220 competitors turned out at the NSC last Tuesday night for round 14 of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league which for the second week running was held in near perfect conditions.

In the born 2012 & later age group Seamus Hall outsprinted Kieran Binns, Charlie Quine and leading girl Gracie Evans to score his maiden win. Oliver Kennington was a safe fifth and Noah Hutchinson pipped Bethany Chapman-Beale for sixth. Finley Quirk beat Charley Skillen in the battle for eighth and David Leece edged out Isabella Quaye and Henry Kinrade to grab the final place on the top ten leader board.

In the novices class Jackson Roberts rode away from the field to notch up his third win of the series. Lukas Wooton was a lonely second and Aditya Varshney kept chasers Lewis Stephens and Elijah Clague at bay for third. Top girl Clodagh Briercliffe overcame Isla Mulholland and William Chadwick in the tussle for sixth and newcomer Elsie Hockaday did well to hold onto ninth ahead of pursuers Johnny Summers and Elliott Dowd-Williams.

Retaining his unbeaten record, Finbar McSevney went from the gun and soloed to another impressive win in the born 2011 event. Jacob Wilson led Bernat Munoz-Fite and Carter Kneale over the line to secure the runners-up spot, with first girl Abigail Cowell just behind in fifth place. Bobby Kerruish got the better of Dylan Honeyman and Erin Morgan in the scrap for sixth, while Joshua Moffitt and Samuel Kinnish stayed clear of the fast finishing Macaulay Teare to complete the top ten.

Stanley Kinnish stamped his authority on the born 2010 category, attacking on the first lap and leaving the rest of the field in his wake to fight over the minor placings. The ever improving Kylan Murphy held off Brad Le Geyt in the dash for second and Liam Blake slipped away from the chasing group to claim fourth. Billy Kneen was fifth closely followed by Daniel Minay, Harrison Skillan and Lula Kinnish, who was the first girl home in eighth position. Conor Madsen-Mygdal repelled a late challenge from Max Messenger to retain ninth.

Eddie Dillon got the verdict in a close sprint with Cameron Hounsell to bag maximum points for third time in the born 2009 race. Tom Pickavance was a solid third and Peel girl May-Saa Smith took the gallop for fourth ahead of Harry Beattie, Zach Jones, Jazzy Dillon and Henry Dormer in fifth to eighth places respectively. Matthew Hooper and Florrie Thomas came in separately to round-off the top ten.

The hard working Deaglen Blake escaped from a leading group of five riders on the last lap of the born 2008 category and powered away to notch up his third win in a row. Fearne Bregazzi was too strong for Leon Murphy, George Kinnish and T.J.Teare in the gallop for second, while Ella Darnill rode away from travelling companions Bob Radcliffe and Nathan Hubbard to snatch sixth.

In the born 2007 three lapper Cian Howard had to fight off determined challenges from Orry Lund and Rio Kelly before claiming his 11th success of the season. Jordan Carter outgunned James Kinrade, Oscar Gaylor and Charlie Scarffe in the dart for fourth, with Florence Griffin seizing the girls’ prize in eighth spot. In the following born 2006 & earlier grouping Kiera Prentice had the edge on Ivan Sorby in the final sprint for the chequered flag. James Scott was third and Chloe Dillon overcame Mairi Harrison and Nicola Quaye in the rush for fourth.

Orry Lund produced a good turn of speed to beat Oscar Gaylor, Myles Le Geyt and Alec Sorby in the struggle for the top slot in the U/8 & U/10 racing bikes. Rio Kelly edged Charlie Scarffe for fifth and Fearne Bregazzi came in alone to collect the girls’ award in seventh position. Cameron Hounsell was the first U/8 rider in a fine eighth place.

Ten frontrunners in the U/12 racing bikes stayed together to the finish where Tyler Annis ousted Owen Collins and Ivan Sorby for the win. James Scott was took fourth ahead of Oliver Corkish, Sophie Smith, Drystan Sewell, Frank Kinnish, Mairi Harrison and Nicola Quaye.

In the U/14 & U/16 event Adam Scarffe set the race alright with a lone attack at one third distance. He was eventually caught by Tosh Teare and Will Corkill and the three of them stayed at the head of affairs to the finish where Teare took the sprint from Scarffe and Corkill. Chasers James Harrison and Aaron Lund were fourth and fifth, with Dan Sowerby spearheading the rest of the field home in sixth place. Matthew Cooil was the top U/14 in eighth spot and Shellan Leeming the best girl in 17th slot.
