Stage 4: Junior Tour of Wales

Report & Result from Stage 3, also won by Joe Nally on the same day

Joe Nally (Scotland): “I’m not quite sure that’s just happened to be honest” he said when I put it to him he’d won his second race out of two in one day.

Joe Nally wins stage 4, his second of the day … Results of the sprint and stage when they are available

“I was fired up for stage 3, ready to go for the win and then the idea on stage 4, was I’d be the final lead out man for Stephen but if the break didn’t come back, I’d ride on the front to bring it back and Stephen would go for the sprint.”

“So I started riding a few times, and I’d find myself off the front with a few other guys. I think everyone at the front of the peloton were so smashed, if someone started riding, they couldn’t go with them.”

Asked at what point he did he join the leaders who had been out front all race, he replied “600 metres to go! It was within the last K certainly. I accidently created a move (on the final lap) and a few strong guys joined it but I was feeling alright and the others looked smashed. There was another group ahead of us and the lead group ahead of them.”

The peloton intact the first time through the finish area where there was the first sprint won by ….

“We kept riding, and the gap was coming down and we caught the first group in front of us and then going up a rise before the finish, the gap to the leaders just disappeared. I was so caught out I was on the hoods in the sprint”.

“When I realised everyone was going full on and I was able to click up another gear, I was confident I would win. This is one of my best days for sure. After yesterday, when I felt so horrible, and the GC was over, the pressure was off”.

Finally, asked was he looking forward to tomorrow up the Tumble or was that something he didn’t want to think about, Joe replied, knowing how legs felt in the last 100 metres, I’m not looking forward to it!”

… Charles Page on his Bianchi from VeloUK sponsor, Twenty3C bike shop in Stony Stratford. The bonuses given there will have had some affect on the GC…

Lap 2 and there was a five man break with Joe Hill, James Tillett, Oliver Robinson and Liam Davies and one other

There was also a lone chaser …

Riders from Wales leading the peloton through a few minutes down on the leaders

The next lap and the leaders now numbered nine or so riders but the peloton (below) was only a minute down …

A lap later and front group was even bigger after at least two more groups joined the front group and from that was Joe Nally winning his second of the day. See his interview for his report on the race.
