Tour of Britain Chat: Tim Elverson

First time in the Tour of Britain, we chat to Tim Elverson, the Bike Channel Canyon team boss who has seen three different riders get in breaks on the first three days of the Tour of Britain.

“Predominantly, this race was the season goal. If you have a good season to qualify for it, that means the season has gone well. We have raced in Europe as well but this was the team’s partners and my personal main goal and we achieved that.”

“Being in the Tour of Britain is massive for the sponsors of a team. We have sponsors who came on board with the hope of us being in the Tour of Britain and they had faith in us despite it not being an easy thing. There are some good teams not here.“

Talking as we did before stage 2, Tim summed up the team’s performance at that point “the guys did well. Our goal was to be in the break and we were all over the start of the race and we have done well in the UK and Europe in getting in moves so that was good. We had hoped to have Chris (Opie) in the shake down in the finish but he was involved in a crash but should be fine in a few days.”

The rider in the team who made the break on the first day was Rob Partridge and Tim explained “I didn’t mind which one of them ended up in the move but was keen for Rob to be in it because it’s a big deal for him. He’s excited about being in the race and while he hasn’t necessarily had a good season, I know the way he has worked as a road captain and the way he communicates with the boys and gets things done that he’s essential”.

No doubt after Rory Townsend and Harry Tanfield backed up by getting in breaks, Tim will be even more pleased with how his riders are performing in the team’s first time in the race …
