Tour of Britain – pre stage chatter

In the stage 3 break was Harry Tanfield (second from left in team pic this morning) of Bike Channel Canyon and he explained “on the first two days, we all had to fight to get in the break and were going with moves but realistically, I didn’t want to be in it as it was so hard (the course), hard in the bunch anyway, but yesterday was pan flat so I went for it and at least it kept me warm!”

“It was good to be on the podium, that was the aim. I wasn’t going for a jersey in the Sprints or KoM so it was good to get that award (Combativity) and get some red numbers. I didn’t just come here to get round, I wanted to be on the podium and do something result wise; a top 20 or top 10 so I’ve made the podium; all I need is a good stage result!”

Already in two breakaways, Matt Holmes (Madison Genesis) was on the front of the start nice and early so it was clear what he was going to try and do. Asked what the aim of the day was, he replied “same as every day, get in the break!”

He admitted that he had a sore back after his second day in the break, adding “it was so hard because it was so flat; no descents to freewheel on, just constantly pressing on the pedals. We have all six of us going for the break, so we’ll see who gets in it”.

Finally, we managed to talk to the softly spoken (hope I have heard him correctly) youngest rider in the race, GB’s Adam Hartley. “It’s been a really good experience so far in what is the longest race I have done. I’m just working to get through it.”

He says the legs are a lot better and that it’s been immense riding with the guys like Cav, Gilbert etc. On what he’s been doing, Adam replied “in the race I have been helping Chris (Lawless) at the finish and getting bottles in the race and stuff like that”.
